Citroen SURVOLT – 2010 Geneva
At the Geneva Motor Show the Citroen company introduced a sports version of the Revolte concept car, which was first introduced in September last year. Appearance Revolte was created in explanation of the legendary model 2CV, dubbed “The Ugly Duckling”, and design a new prototype called Survolt became more aggressive. The machine has started aerodynamic body kit with large spoilers, air intakes and extended wheel arches.
Overall length of the prototype two-seater rear-wheel drive Citroen Survolt is 3,85 meters, width – 1,87 m and height – 1,2 meters. For comparison, the new 65 and 150 millimeters respectively, longer and wider than the sports car Lotus Exige S, but slightly higher and shorter than the model Exige coupe Audi TT.
Geneva 2010: NVL Quant is an electric dream boat

We saw this here four-seat Gullwinger last year billed as the Koenigsegg Quant. For the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, it’s reappeared as the NVL Quant. Go figure. We’re not sure if we should emphasize the dream part of the headline, or the boat part. At first glance, we’re thinking boat as the Quant is enormous. The wheelbase is 122 inches, and the vehicle’s overall length is 192 inches. It’s six-and-a-half-feet wide, too. No, it’s not 1970s Caddy big, but for an electric car, the Quant is barge-like. And it rides on 23-inch wheels.
Though once you start getting inside the numbers, you see why we really ought to emphasize the dream part. Ready? Here goes: zero to sixty miles per hour in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 234 miles per hour. Pretty, um, hopeful numbers considering that the giant gullwing four-seater weighs 3,700 pounds. Er, actually it’s “projected” to weigh 3,700 pounds. Meaning the actual weight may vary. Also we need to point out that the Quant’s made out of carbon fiber.
Power comes from four electric motors (one for each wheel) with some type of torque vectoring software to maximize traction. There are two different power systems on board. One’s a conventional battery and the other’s a pyrite film covering that acts as a solar cell to power the instruments and also charge the battery. Speaking of batteries, the NVL Quant might will ship with either a metal-air battery (like some hearing aids) or a refillable Redox Flow Cell. Not sure what either of those are? Don’t fret, but be sure to check out the wood-look steering wheel – we think it looks great.

Chinese manufactured hybrids coming soon?
Ready for Chinese made vehicles? Of course you’re not, but would a $15,000 Prius-like hybrid, or a $25,000 Chevy Volt-like plug-in – branded by Mercedes Benz – change your mind?
Perhaps not, but I’d bet such vehicles could pique the attention of many Americans, and such hybrids and plug-in vehicles are closer to reality thanks to a new partnership between Daimler and BYD.
BYD’s battery experience, location to critical supplies and availability of cheap labor, coupled with Daimler’s experience, might not ever mean much outside of China, but the potential of such a venture cannot be denied, or ignored.
Chinese-made battery packs for American cars are inevitable, and Chinese made hybrid cars won’t be far behind. Read more…
LEAKED: 2011 Kia Sportage
The next generation of Kia’s Sportage compact SUV has been given away through a series of designs that were made for the European Union’s patent office. Note however that there’s a small chance that the patent images could be depicting an almost production-ready concept destined for either the Geneva Salon in March or the Seoul Motor Show in April.
The reason why we’re saying this is the use of some specific styling features such as the chrome trim, the tail lamp arrangement, the alloy wheel designs and the styling of the lower part of the front bumper, all of which look suspiciously fit for a concept car. But even so, what you’re looking at here is what you’ll get more or less when the 2011 Sportage arrives at the Korean automakers dealers either towards the end of the year or early 2011.
Like all Kias penned under the guiding hand of former Audi designer Peter Schreyer, the new Sportage is a much more attractive proposition than the outgoing model. Under the bodywork, the Sorento’s smaller sibling shares its hardware with the new Hyundai Tucson (called iX35 in Europe and other markets).
That said, don’t expect any surprises under the hood with the North American Sportage being offered with the same 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter four cylinder engines coupled to six-speed transmissions as the Tuscon. Likewise, the European market Sportage will get three diesels including a 115HP 1.7-liter unit, and a 2.0-liter engine with 134HP and 184HP, and two gasoline units with a displacement of 1.6-liter and 2.0-liters producing 140HP and 166HP respectively.
