Study: Fuel cell vehicles to reach 670,000 in annual sales by 2020

As many automakers turn their attention to electric vehicles, fuel cells are not getting as much attention as they used to. Though we don’t see either electric or fuel cell-powered vehicles capturing a majority of the automotive market any time soon, several studies have suggested that the growth of battery-powered vehicles will outpace fuel cells. Now, a new study from Pike Research has emerged suggesting that fuel cell vehicles are ripe for an explosive increase in volume. Pike predicts fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) will reach 670,000 in annual sales volume by 2020. Though the predicted volume is much higher than we anticipated, the study suggests that automakers will adopt fuel cell technology at a rapid rate over the next ten years, leading to high annual output.
Of the 670,000 in annual sales, the U.S. will lead the way with 134,049 FCVs, China will hold a close second at 129,241 and Germany will round out the top three with 126,783 annual sales of FCVs. We’re not entirely sure how Pike can confidently list such detailed results, but we think that the findings are overly optimistic and based upon the assumption that the necessary refueling infrastructure will be in place by 2020. Without the infrastructure, FCVs could fail to reach the lofty volumes predicted by Pike. Fuel cell industry analyst Dave Hurst spoke the truth when he remarked:
The entire growth of the fuel cell vehicle market balances on two key elements: the growth of hydrogen gas refueling stations and improvements in the cells themselves.

2011 BMW M3 Frozen Grey Coupe sold out in 12 minutes (U.S)
BMW has announced that the limited edition M3 Frozen Gray Coupe was sold out in 12 minutes.
The FGC (Frozen Gray Coupe) was built to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the M3. It features exclusive Frozen Gray matte paint, Competition Package (19” alloy wheels and lowered ride height), Electronic Damping Control, and an M Double Clutch Transmission, Fox Red/Black Novillo leather interior, “carbon leather” trim, heated front seats, premium sound system, satellite navigation, Comfort Access, and a one-day enrolment at the BMW Performance Driving School in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Priced at $77,600 – $19,200 more than a regular M3 coupe, the FGC is powered by a 4.0 litre V8 with 414bhp (420PS) with 400Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
According to Larry Koch, M Brand Manager for BMW North America, “I’m personally thrilled to see that our customers are as excited about it as we are. We filled the thirty reservation slots within twelve minutes and took the names of at least fifty alternates in the first hour. The 2011 Frozen Gray M3 Coupe will be one of the most unique BMW vehicles ever imported to the U.S.”

Jenson Button sues Brawn-Mercedes for championship-winning car

To the victor go the spoils. It’s an age-old adage, and with good reason. But after winning the world championship last year, Jenson Button had another battle on his hands.
In negotiating his contract with Brawn GP for last season, Button reportedly agreed to a salary cut given the team’s drastically reduced budget compared to the well-funded Honda years. A clause, however improbable it may have seemed at the time, was included in the contract that stipulated that, should Button win the championship, he’d be entitled to keep one of the cars with which he won it.
After the season was done, Button moved to McLaren and Mercedes bought the Brawn team, the chassis wasn’t delivered. Offering instead to build Button a replica, the team reportedly claimed there weren’t enough chassis to go around, so Button’s company took the team to court.
The parties have reportedly since settled out of court and Button is due to take possession of his championship-winning car. But if you thought he had an easy ride to the title, claiming the prize apparently proved anything but.

Confederate Motorcycles has been through a lot in the last couple of years. Through it all, though – from barely surviving Hurricane Katrina to a new home in Alabama to now finally getting some much-needed new funding and likely moving back to Louisiana – the high-end motorcycle company has thankfully kept producing eye-catching machinery to lust after.
The latest machine to roll through the warehouse at Confederate is a new, darker take on the production P120 Fighter. Using a similar frame of 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum monocoque backbone, bulkhead and fuselage side plate construction along with the marque’s double-wishbone front end, the new P120 Black Flag adds a healthy dose of all-black style.
Power for the Black Flag comes from the same 120-cubic-inch V-twin engine with 160 horsepower and 135 pound-feet of torque as used in the standard Fighter. Suffice it to say that’s plenty of power. Pricing has yet to be set, but you can rest assured knowing it won’t be cheap and that there will be a limited number of Black Flags available. See for yourself in our photo gallery below.

New gen 2011 Nissan Elgrand official presented
Japanese media have published official information about the new generation Nissan Elgrand minivan. Sales of the car will start in August.
Exterior of car redesigned in accordance with the slogan “Dynamics and luxury”, improved aerodynamics. Novelty has front-wheel drive, which made the body more spacious. The machine has a 95 mm lower and the ceiling height in the cabin increased by 20 mm. A choice of two engines: inline 4-cylinder QR25DE 2,5 l and V6 VQ35DE 3,5 l, aggregated variator. Also available all-wheel drive version of the Elgrand.

2011 Audi AS8 by ABT

German tuner ABT has released word (and pictures) of the first tuned 2011 Audi A8 we know about, the AS8. ABT freely admits that the new A8 is pretty sporty on its own. Therefore, the AS8 package seeks to “underline” what Audi’s already done in terms of huge, sporting luxo-bargeness. To wit, “[ABT] has not changed the elegant glider into a racing car, but carefully into a confident and sporty automobile.”
Naturally, ABT started with a version of the A8 we can’t get here in the States, the diesel. In stock form, Audi’s 4.2-liter TDI V8 produces a healthy 350 horsepower and a yacht-towing 590 pound-feet of torque. In ABT trim however, the sparkless mill churns out 385 hp and a foundation-shifting 649 lb-ft of torque. The car’s 0-60 time falls from the factory’s 5.5 seconds to around five flat. Quite good for a 4,300+ pound oil burner, no?
Of course it would be in very bad form to just hop up the engine and leave the rest of the car stock — how would anyone know you’re driving a tuner? To that end, ABT has gone on and designed a body kit for the AS8. This kit primarily consists of a front spoiler with a splitter, side sills and a rear-end apron enclosing new tail pipes. There’s also a three-piece rear spoiler and 21-inch wheels. We’ve never been totally sold on the looks of the 2011 A8, so while the ABT treatment helps in some respects (the rear looks excellent), it doesn’t help much in others. Specifically the droopy looking sides and over-sized schnoz. But hey, at least they’re trying.
