Though not slated for its official debut until the Paris Motor Show in October, Peugeot has kindly provided a sneak peak at its upcoming 508 sedan. The new 508 will go on sale at the start of 2011 and all models will be equipped with Peugeot’s fuel-saving e-HDi system. e-HDi is the company’s latest attempt at stop-start technology and Peugeot claims that its next-generation system features improved efficiency and enhanced driveability over previous designs.

Though e-HDi is said to improve fuel economy across the entire lineup, Peugeot’s most fuel-efficient 508 model will be the HYbrid4, slated for launch in mid-2011. The HYbrid4 combines an efficient diesel engine with an electric motor, six-speed manual transmission and the aforementioned stop-start system. The HYbrid4 setup is a so-called “through-the-road” hybrid. The diesel engine powers the front wheels while the electric motor gives the rear some zing. All of the advanced technology adds up to create one clean vehicle. Peugeot claims that the 508 HYbrid4 will emit just 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer as it motors down the road. Even better, if you’re not goosing it, the HYbrid4 can scoot around under electric power, occasionally offering a zero-emissions driving experience.

Fiat Linea production allocated to Russia

2007+Fiat+Linea Fiat Linea production allocated to Russia

One of Russia’s biggest car companies, Sollers, plans to start production on the Fiat Linea sedan in August/September at its plant in Naberezhnye Chelny, CEO Vadim Shvetsov has declared. The car will on sale during September.

Localization of production will reach 35%. Sollers has no plans to boost this figure since it wants to launch a new car line in 2015-’16. This is the second go by Sollers at producing the Linea sedan. Back in 2008, Sollers announced plans to build the car in the Alabuga economic area of Tartarstan but abandoned the idea.

Prices and specifications for the Linea in Russia were not released but local analysts think that the entry-level model will start at less than $16,000. The Russian Linea sedan is likely to be powered by a 1.4 litre 77bhp & 120bhp petrol engine, in addition to a 1.3 MultiJet diesel engine.

Shvetsov said that the Linea will primarily contend with the popular Ford Focus in Russia.

Report: German-baiting Nissan ads at Goodwood draw Porsche ire

nissan z kill ads Report: German baiting Nissan ads at Goodwood draw Porsche ireWhy is everybody picking on Porsche these days? Last month, the marketing team at Mini had quite a bit of fun at the expense of the German sports car maker, daring the storied automaker to step into the ring to take on a Mini Cooper S at Road Atlanta. A privately sourced 911 ended up kicking the Mini’s go-kart-handling butt to the curb, but even in defeat, the British marquee had the nerve to mention that the 911′s two-second victory would cost the typical weekend warrior about $36,000 per second.
Mini isn’t the first automaker to go after Porsche; Nissan has been nipping at the heels of the 911 since the venerable GT-R hit the streets a couple years back. Nissan was back at its German rival during the Goodwood Festival of Speed last week, with a splattering of advertising preaching general superiority. Nissan smacked at Porsche, Audi and BMW on a giant billboard at London’s BFI IMAX cinema and on smaller postcards handed out. The ads are part of a UK-wide campaign that includes such slogans as “How to beat the Germans” and amusingly, “Kaisers Chiefed” and “The Germans Came Off Wurst.” The aggressive campaign at Goodwood included a brace of Nissan GT-R and 370Z models displayed wearing BMW, Audi and Porsche logos next to fighter plane-style kill marks.
So, is Porsche going to take this face-slap sitting down? Actually, lawyers at the German automaker have already blew the whistle on the ad, but not because of any embarrassment, pain or trauma it may have caused. Instead, Porsche suits simply asked that any unauthorized use of its crest trademark be removed. Nissan is reportedly removing the trademarks and continuing the ad campaign. For our money, we’d rather see the lawyers stay out of this fight and get a GT-R and a 911 Turbo on the ‘Ring for a final showdown.

Local Motors hasn’t generated a whole lot of publicity since it debuted its crowd-sourced Rally Fighter off-road coupe at last year’s SEMA show, but that doesn’t mean the small-scale, forward-thinking builder hasn’t been busy. We haven’t managed to convince them to hand over the keys to one of their lunar buggies just yet, so we’re still patiently waiting in line to get behind the wheel. Who wouldn’t want to drive a giant 3,100-pound dune buggy with a fighter-plane-inspired sports coupe body and a torquey BMW diesel under the hood?

When we finally do get to drive this fun and funky beast, we promise not to paint it orange or to put a big “01″ on the doors or even a Confederate flag on the roof. We can’t promise, however, that we won’t try our best to replicate this Bo and Luke-worthy stunt. The company has sent along a video to show that the Rally Fighter does indeed have off-roading chops, in case you doubted it after their previous nine-minute video release. So check out the short clip after the jump and turn your sound up so you too can hear John Fogerty while it spools up and Waylon Jennings wailin’ while the Rally Fighter soars.
