Volkswagen CC launched in Australia

Volkswagen Australia has launched the second-generation Passat CC four-door coupe with a starting price of $ 54,990 for the diesel. This time around the Germans have gone for a simpler naming convention by removing the Passat badge and sticking with just Volkswagen CC.

The previous generation Volkswagen Passat CC found around 320,000 buyers worldwide with more than 2,700 of them in Australia. The new Volkswagen CC continues the theme and overall appeal of its predecessor with more standard features, better fuel efficiency and a modernized look.

Built in Volkwagen’s Emden plant in Germany (where the Passat sedan and wagon are also produced), the new Volkswagen CC embodies what the German company refers to as “style with substance”. Essentially an attractive yet defined and purposeful design.

The new Volkswagen CC carries over the previous-generation’s list of standard features, which included 18-inch alloy wheels, sports seats, automatic climate control and heated seats but adds new standard equipment such as Bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and a much-needed satellite navigation system (RNS510).

Yet Another Rumor: Next BMW X1 to go front-drive

BMW X1 has been a smashing hit for the Munich-based automaker. The rear-wheel drive and xDrive models sold to 300,000 customers around the world since its market launch in Fall 2009. The X1 was praised by magazines and rewarded for its agile handling, fuel efficiency and extraordinary versatility.

But the next generation X1 might go through a dramatic change. According to Autocar UK, the second generation of the premium compact SAV will go on sale in 2015 and will trade the rear-wheel-drive platform with the new front-drive architecture to be shared with future MINIs and the upcoming 1 Series GT which will launch at the Paris Auto Show.

Insiders told Autocar that the decision to drop the iconic rear-wheel drive platform is directly related to BMW’s goals to lower production costs, while offering added packaging benefits. The second generation X1 might offer an upgraded interior and gadgetry thanks to new space-saving that will results from the mounting of the engine.

2013 VW Polo BlueGT Details

Polo BlueGT 1 2013 VW Polo BlueGT Details

With the new Polo BlueGT Volkswagen wants to see how far they can push a petrol-powered car to get better fuel efficiency out of it. With a sophisticated 1.4 liter TSI engine in the BlueGT, they have arrived at an average consumption of 4.6 liter/100 km – and 107 g/km CO2 – which is great considering the 140 PS it makes. This engine also makes 250 Nm of torque, which is fantastic.

That means you can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 210 km/h. So it’s not at all what you call a slouch. That said, this 1.4 TSI unit is not the most refined engine in the world. And that kinda begs the question why choosing this, and not a normal diesel, which will be far more economical.

The 1,4 liter TSI in the Volkswagen Polo BlueGT is a busy little thing. Ins spite of its small size it gets something called Active cylinder management (ACT), which temporarily deactivates the second and third cylinders under low to medium load states. The car also benefits from BlueMotion Technologies including Stop/Start system, battery regeneration, aerodynamic components.

All that will help with the fuel economy, but as mentioned they have a negative effect on the car’s refinement. And let’s not forget the Polo BlueGT is not a cheap car. It costs 19,650 euros in Germany.

Impressive fuel economy from 2012 BMW 335i

So, I like blogging about fuel mileage. Maybe because it’s such a hot topic, or because virtually all automakers claim their latest umbrella of gas-saving technologies will deliver a hundred miles per gallon and 0-60 in 3 seconds.

Or (and probably) because my weekly test commute of over 2,000 kilometres gives me a fantastic way to compare new vehicles with said technologies to each other in the real world. Somewhat accurately, too.

Every week, Highway 69 (which connects Sudbury with Southern Ontario) becomes my little proving ground, where test-car fuel consumption is compared to each other in real life.

My weekly drive is hardly a scientific, controlled or exhaustive mileage test – but it’s an interesting comparison if nothing else.

Recently, the real-world fuel economy I recorded in the new 2012 BMW 335i Sedan proved noteworthy. After 2,200 kilometres of city driving and highway cruising at a good clip, the tester burned an average of 8.7L/100km. That’s measured by hand, not using the often-optimistic on-board computer.

Stunt Drivers Survive ‘Hot Wheels’ Double Dare Loop, Cars Less Fortunate

Stunt Drivers Survive ‘Hot Wheels’ Double Dare Loop, Cars Less Fortunate

In a blend of precise speed, rogue physics and downright insanity, stunt drivers Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy have done what plastic track-obsessed kids have dreamed of for years: the Double Dare Loop.

At this past weekend’s X Games in Los Angeles, California, the two drivers simultaneously traversed a pair of 66-foot-tall loops at an exact speed of 52 MPH, managing to pull 7 Gs as they ran up and over the two life-sized tracks.

One of the final galleries we have to show you from Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012 contains pictures of the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake Mule. Mercedes-Benz presented the CLS Shooting Brake on Sunday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. On the same day, the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake development mule took part in the hill climb event!

The Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake uses the same drivetrain as its four-door sports-coupe sibling, the CLS 63 AMG. Thus the car will be powered by a 5.5 liter V8 biturbo engine which offers 525 horsepower and 700Nm of torque. This should enable the Shooting Brake to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in approximately 4.5 seconds, while its top speed will be limited at 250km/h.
