On Monday we presented this week’s shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle from whence it came. Our 4th of July mystery car couldn’t be more American, folks—the first commenter to correctly identify it as a 1971 AMC Javelin was R88Colvin. (That’s “American Motors Corporation” to you kids out there.) He will receive a Save the Manuals button and sticker as a reward.
The Javelin pictured here is from our October 1970 issue. It was refreshed for the ’71 model year with more-expressive styling and upgraded engines. The base motivator was a 135-hp six-cylinder, but a 401-cubic-inch V-8 making 330 hp was available with the sporty AMX model. At the time, we described the Javelin as “a car of undeniable appeal” that would be embraced by those committed to defending underdogs. Come to think of it, that concept sounds pretty darn America.

Acura has just unveiled full details for the 2013 ZDX crossover, which underwent a mid-cycle refresh and also took the title as the fourth worst selling new vehicle in the US in 2011. Will the refresh be enough to sway some new buyers in?
Though Acura hasn’t officially released pictures yet (the 2012 model is pictured), they still supplied a press release for an overview of their future lineup as far as 2014.
In terms of the press release, Acura said that the 2013 ZDX will receive new technology, exterior styling changes, while packaging will be consolidated to offer “clients a greater value on a luxury scale.” Basically, the 2013 ZDX will also be getting more standard options.

Australia is the single largest market in the world for the iconic Toyota LandCruiser. More than one in 10 of all LandCruisers ever built have been sold here.
In Australia’s booming SUV market, the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series has the distinction of taking a massive 77 per cent slice of total sales for large SUVs priced under $ 100K.
It’s a huge lead, despite its direct competitor, the Nissan Patrol, coming with a substantially lower retail price of $ 70,490 for the top-of-the-line 3.0-litre Ti turbo diesel (Nissan will launch a new-generation Patrol in Australia in January 2013).
In comparison, our test vehicle is the Toyota LandCruiser 200 GXL turbo diesel, which is priced at $ 88,990 before on-road costs.
The upper-large SUV category includes just six other contenders: Range Rover Vogue; Lexus LX570; Mercedes-Benz GL-Class; Nissan Patrol; Toyota Troop Carrier and the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series Wagon.
Super car spotter Marchettino had an opportunity recently to film an ultra-rare Koenigsegg Agera R. This video no only includes beauty footage, it also shows the car revving and accelerating. And we’re not talking about normal, calm acceleration. Those who buy cars like Koenigsegg are people who like fun and games. They don’t mess about. So we get flat-out acceleration runs here. Quite a rare scene this.
Koenigsegg 5 litre V8 bi-turbo engine develops more than 900 hp on 95 octane regular fuel, and more than 1100 hp on E85 bio fuel. The Agera produces over 1000 Nm of torque from 2500 rpm and in the Koenigsegg Agera R format the engine has a peak torque of 1200 Nm over a 3300 rpm rev range, showing great flexibility.

UK magazine AutoExpress drives the F20 four-door BMW 125d equipped with the M Sport package. The F20 1er Hatchback made its debut last summer and it was offered in Europe with both petrol and diesel engines. The 125d with M Sport package is considered to be, so far, the flagship of the new 1 Series family.
The M Sport pack brings changes to the exterior, including both aerodynamic and stylistic improvements. Starting at the front of the vehicle, the front air dam has been widened to accommodate larger air intakes which feed the cooling systems. Moving to the side valence, a more sculptured prominent line is drawn above the rocker panels, adding the appearance of muscle and weight to the car. Finally, at the rear BMW has incorporated a more aggressive and sculpted rear bumper, rounding out the look.
In the UK, the model starts at £27,820 and provides a fuel economy of 60 imperial mpg.
But how does it drive? Let’s have a look at an excerpt from their review:
The year 2012 seems to be tough one for the automotive world as another famous icon has just kicked the bucket. Sergio Pininfarina, the honorary chairman of one of the most famous design firms in history, Pininfarina Group, has passed away at the age of 85.
Sergio spearheaded the Pininfarina Group as far back as 1966 as his father, Gian Battista “Pinin” Farina died. He then held this roll until changing to honorary chairman in 2006.
But more importantly is what Pininfarina is known for. Besides the obvious, working directly with brands Ferrari and Maserati, Pininfarina is also famous for many other designs that span as far as Cadillac, Chevrolet, to Bentley, Volvo, Peugeot and many more.
To learn about Sergio Pininfarina’s rich history in design, feel free to read through Mr. Pininfarina’s history in the press release provided by the Pininfarina Group after the jump.
