Rumor: BMW M770i xDrive coming with next-generation 7 Series
The idea of a BMW M7-like vehicle comes back to focus. According to Automobile Magazine, BMW plans to introduce a flagship M car with the next generation 7 Series but the high-performance 7 Series will be labeled M700i xDrive and is heading to the U.S. in 2015.
The 7 Series M Performance Automobile will likely feature the V8 Twin-Turbo 4.0 liter engine producing around 475 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. While the M770i xDrive is geared towards customers asking for a high-performance and sporty 7 Series, the M-like car will be underpowered when compared to the V12 760Li which outputs 570 horsepower and 665 lb-ft of torque.

But just like the other M Performance Automobiles (M135i, M550d, BMW X5 M50d and X6 M50d), the M770i xDrive is tuned by the M division to be a car that offers a balance between a track-focused automobile and a daily driver. The MPA (M Performance Automobile) 7 Series is said to have the roof, trunk, and hood made out of carbon fiber. To keep the weight down, the company will offer lightweight sport seats, carbon-ceramic brakes, a thin-wall exhaust with four tailpipes, and lightweight 20 inch wheels. BMW aims to shave about 450 lbs.
The M770i Xdrive will continue to rely on aluminum for suspension components, firewalls, and doors, with steel forming the rest of the unibody. Carbon fiber will be used as well. All these weight savings will place the M770i xDrive in the weight class as the Jaguar XJ which uses an aluminum chassis.

Report: Ford recalling 2013 Escape over brake issue

FoMoCo is already recalling some of its new 2013 Escape models due to a carpet flaw that may case driver to apply the brakes improperly. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects 8,266 units built between March 8 and June 7.
The Dearborn automaker says that the carpet padding is improperly installed around the center console may cause the driver’s foot to hit the side of the brake when moving from the accelerator to the brake.
To fix the issue Ford will remove the padding and the left-side console trim panel and replace it with a new panel.
The recall starts on July 23.
Lexus LF-LC: concept to become production reality by 2015
The Lexus LF-LC concept unveiled at January’s Detroit motor show could reach showroom floors as a full-scale production car within three years.
The push for the luxury 2+2 sports coupe has apparently gained momentum since May when Lexus told CarAdvice the car’s chance of production was “50-50″, with US industry journal Automotive News now quoting Lexus insiders who say the overwhelming reaction to the concept means it will almost certainly hit the market.
Enthusiasm and interest at Detroit was such that Toyota registered the LF-LC trademark in February, post-motor show.

The report says sources at Lexus have said a production version of the LF-LC would be something of a Lexus LFA “lite” without the $ 700,000 price tag, instead targeting upscale performance cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo and Aston Martin Vantage.
While specific details are unknown, using an existing platform such as from the Lexus IS-F sedan would speed up the development process, which is already understood to be on track.

Confirmed: Audi Q5 to Add 3.0-Liter V-6 Diesel Model for 2014
July 13, 2012 at 3:26pm by Austin Lindberg

When the 2013 Audi Q5 debuted earlier this year, Audi laid out its powertrain options: the ubiquitous 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 211 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, the becoming-ubiquitous 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 producing 272 hp and 295 lb-ft, a hybrid combining the same 2.0-liter turbo four tuned to an output of 208 hp combined with a 44-hp electric motor, and a yet-to-be-determined diesel option. That diesel option has now been determined.
Audi tells us that the U.S.-spec Q5 TDI will get a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6, churning out 245 hp plus a hefty 428 lb-ft of twist from 1750 rpm. It’s the same basic engine that powers the Europe-only SQ5 TDI, although in that application output is cranked to 313 hp and 479 lb-ft. (A gas-fired SQ5 is possible for our market, but don’t hold your breath for the diesel version.) It also means that, at least at this point, the Q5 TDI will have more power and torque than does the larger-and-no-longer-in-charge-r Q7 TDI.
Audi predicts that the Q5 TDI will reach 60 mph from a standstill in less than 6.5 seconds while achieving fuel economy of 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers, which works out to roughly 37 mpg combined—albeit on the optimistic European cycle. The Q5 TDI will hit showroom floors next summer as a 2014 model. Combining the comparo-winning handling and refinement of the basic Q5 with the goodness of Audi’s 3.0-liter diesel? Sounds like a winner to us.

Audi-Faced, BMW-Tailed Subaru Impreza WRX is the Definition of Overkill

We understand that some Subaru owners love their cars for what they are and hate them for what they look like and will try anything to improve their styling, but the British owner of 1993 Impreza WRX may have taken things a bit too far.
The modified Japanese sports car’s front end is borrowed from a mid-to-late 2000s Audi A4 (B7) while the rear was made out of bits and pieces from the previous generation, Bangle-styled BMW 5-Series (codenamed E60).
The blistered wheel arches, side skirts, black alloy wheels and the shaved doors are bonus parts.
The mix-and-match of German car components is certainly not to everyone’s taste, but we are going to agree with the crew from GTSpirit that everything seems to have been crafted on prudently from a styling point of view.
The Japanese-German WRX is said to be powered by Subaru’s 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four with 240-ponnies.
