Watch Me: The West Philadelphia Kids That Took on the X Prize

Frontline tells a pretty amazing underdog tale in its new documentary, “Fast Times at West Philly High.” It’s about a group of inner-city high school kids who entered the Progressive Automotive X Prize, a $ 10 million competition to create a superefficient car. The Philly kids and their teachers didn’t have CAD software or much of a budget, and yet, working out of their school’s bare-bones garage, they managed to design and build two completely unique hybrid cars. Then, on a NASCAR track in Michigan, they drove the hybrids against cars from multimillion-dollar startups and prestigious universities.
It’s not spoiling too much to say that West Philly performed better in the Prize than many expected. Producer Debbie Morton was there at every step, from the garage to the track, and she has put together a remarkably intimate portrait of the team. She captures the vision of the teachers, the personalities and skills of the students, and the ingenuity of the auto hacks. “Fast Times” has a lot to say, not just about cars but about education, and we wanted to give you a chance to ask questions of the key players. You can chat with Morton – as well as with Simon Hauger, the team manager, and Azeem Hill, the student team captain – starting at 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, July 17. But you don’t have to wait to submit a question; just type it into the Cover it Live box. And if you’d like to get a sense of the program, see the video trailer below.

Report: Ford Mondeo to see delayed launch in UK

Ford has been delayed the launch of the new Mondeo in UK… but for good reasons. The new Ford Mondeo (known to us now as the 2013 Ford Fusion) was supposed to hit UK dealers last month, but the model has now been pushed back until September.
According to a Ford spokesperson, the delay is due to Ford working ‘through various issues to ensure a robust and high-quality launch’. That forced Ford to move back production from April to later date at its Genk, Belgium plant.
Check out more news on the Ford Fusion.
Refresher: The 2013 Ford Fusion is available in the United STates in S, SE and Titanium trims. The engine lineup includes a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 with 170-hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a 1.6 liter EcoBoost turbo 4-cylinder making 179-hp and 172 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0 liter EcoBoost making 237-hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. All Ford Fusion models come with front-wheel-drive as standard but the 2.0 EcoBoost can be ordered with all-wheel-drive.

Vauxhall releases new ‘Adam’ Model

Vauxhall hopes that the Adam will beat the likes of its competitors MINI and the Fiat 500, with its unique stylish design and lots of hi-tech gadgets found inside the car.
The Adam was officially unveiled at the Paris motor show in September 2011 and will drive into UK showrooms in January 2013. Adam and its unique design offer over one million, (yes one million) different styling combinations to choose from. Vauxhall have said.“It’s truly a new kind of car!”
Vauxhall have designed three different trims for their launch:
• JAM (fashionable/colourful)
• GLAM (elegant/sophisticated)
• SLAM(racy/sporty)
Adam is a classy, sophisticated, three door car, which unlike its rivals bucks its design to be retro. It appeals to free thinking individuals who like things that are different, striking and quirky to other cars.
Mark Adams Vauxhall’s design “guru” sums up Adam’s uniqueness as follows: “Its very unlikely that you’ll find two identical Adams out there, because we’re offereing virtually unlimited exterior, interior and kit combination choices.”
