MINI Canada delivers its 40,000th vehicle
MINI Canada delivered its 40,000th vehicle to a Canadian customer on Thursday, July 19th in Toronto, Ontario. Achieving the 40,000-unit milestone comes in a year marked by another significant landmark for the iconic brand: 2012 marks the 10-year anniversary for MINI in Canada.
“Our 10th anniversary is turning into a year of significant accomplishments,” said Adam Shaver, Director, MINI Canada. “Our retailers are investing in an unprecedented way in their facilities, our sales continue to climb, and our model line-up is expanding. And more exciting products are coming, which means we’re looking forward to more achievements to celebrate in the future.”

MINI has enjoyed tremendous success in Canada during its 10-year history. After selling more than 5,000 units in a single year for the first time in 2011, MINI Canada’s sales momentum continues in 2012. The brand is up over 27 per cent for the first half of the year, and secured its second-consecutive best-ever month with its June sales results. Having started with a single model and just over a dozen retailers, the brand has grown into a family of six unique product offerings and a retailer network of nearly 30 facilities across Canada. Models range from the original and much-loved two-door MINI Hatch to the all-wheel drive, four-door MINI Countryman. The Countryman represents the first true four-door compact SUV in MINI’s history, and was aptly the 40,000th MINI to be delivered on Canadian soil.
“Our model line-up is growing in such a way that we resonate with more Canadians than ever,” continued Shaver. “Customers can grow with the MINI of today; when their lifestyle changes – with the expansion of their own family, for example – we have a product to meet their needs. And no matter the model, the common denominator across the line-up is the irresistible MINI performance and handling. On top of that, our sales are strong and we’ve just delivered our 40,000th vehicle since we started doing business in Canada. For a brand of small cars, that’s a pretty big accomplishment.”
Brabus Smart Fortwo 10th Anniversary Edition

Smart is currently taking a break from releasing special editions of the fotwo – they usually put one out every two weeks. But Brabus is not going to let the little car rests, and brings back to work for a new 10th anniversary edition. Visually, it is one of the coolest smart fortwos we’ve seen in a very long time, but it’s only got a 1.0 liter 120 PS engine. Being a Brabus product we were expecting it to have at least 500!
The 10th anniversary smart features a special liquid silver paint job, complemented with black accents, smoked lights, and matte black Monoblock VII 16-inch wheels. What’s more the tuner has lowered the suspension, added front fog lamps, a sports exhaust with rear apron in black, BRABUS logo at the front, rear and in the mirror triangle, and a panoramic roof.
The interior has received a treatment as well. You get BRABUS dashboard instruments (cockpit clock & rev counter), a gear knob in leather/aluminium, an aluminium hand brake lever and sports pedals in stainless steel with rubber nubs. There is also a 3-spoke leather sports steering wheel with steering wheel gearshift, air conditioning with automatic temperature control and electric windows.
Performance-wise, this special fortwo goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, before hitting its top speed of 154 km/h. Production is limited to 100 units.

The world’s first Nissan LEAF Limo

Just behind the release of it’s police car version this month in Portugal, Nissan has just debuted a 2012 Nissan Leaf Limo at the Embassy Suites hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.
Nissan itself describes the vehicle as “the world’s first road-worthy, licensed, street-legal electric limousine.” It serves its function well, as despite the model’s limited electric range, the majority of the trips it takes are under five miles away for the hotel.
Nissan has not mentioned who is responsible for creating the Leaf limo, but they did say “They kept most of the Nissan Leaf’s essential parts intact. There is still just one battery pack, but now it sits in the back for balance. They added about 400 pounds in the center of the car to make room for more seating. And they added mirrors, plush leather and cedar paneling, synonymous with luxury limos.”

LeMons Pacific Northworst BS Inspections: Two-Stroke Saab, Two-Stroke Miata, and a Plymouth Scamp

We’re up in rainy, gloomy Washington State for the second annual Pacific Northworst 24 Hours of LeMons, and this field is shaping up to be one of the best we’ve seen in the ’12 season. There’s the usual assortment of BMW 3-series, Mazda RX-7s, Acura Integras, and Fox-body Mustangs, but those cars are just the background against which the real racers stand out. You know it’s going to be a good race when you speculate about how the Saab 96 is going to fare against the Sedan Deville and the Town & Country.

The great thing about this series is that this car is not its first two-stroke Saab. Note the interesting roof-mounted cargo box; that’s an emergency supply sled, made to be air-dropped over Antarctica.

Balto, the infamous Polaris snowmobile-engined Mazda Miata, came up from California. You have to admire a race car with an engine/transmission combo that weighs just 85 pounds.

We’d been hoping for years to see a Dodge Rampage in LeMons, and now we’ve got something even better: a Plymouth Scamp, the Rampage’s Omnirizon truck sibling.

The same team also brought their veteran Chrysler Town & Country minivan, which is amazingly quick on a road course despite being naturally aspirated. How do you think the BMW drivers are going to feel when they get passed by the Soccer Moms?
