24 Hours of LeMons Race Cars We’d Like To See, Part 2

LeMons Wish List Pontiac Aztek 626x382 24 Hours of LeMons Race Cars We’d Like To See, Part 2
In Part 1 of the 24 Hours of LeMons Wish List, we yearned for such excellent racing machines as the Renault Fuego, the Ford EXP, and the Chrysler Cordoba. We’re hoping that prospective LeMons teams have taken note and are now searching for sub-500-buck examples of the fine machines that made the list, but perhaps you read Wish List Part 1 and decided that the Datsun F10 and Hyundai Scoupe just aren’t for you. No problem— we’re back with ten more cars yet to appear in LeMons for your team’s shopping list!Pontiac Aztek

Can you believe that no LeMons team has ever raced a Pontiac Aztek? You can buy running ugly (that is, more ugly than stock) Azteks for scrap value or less, and you get 21st-century technology and 185 hp while still competing for a Class C trophy. That’s right, you heard right—the LeMons Supreme Court will put any Aztek in the same class as Mazda GLCs and Triumph Heralds!

LeMons Wish List Cadillac Catera 626x382 24 Hours of LeMons Race Cars We’d Like To See, Part 2

Cadillac Catera

General Motors products have dominated the Index of Effluency, the top prize of LeMons racing, winning more IOE trophies than any other manufacturer. You’d think that this success would have led so many teams to run GM cars that we’d have seen everything the company ever wrought, but that’s not the case. We’ll follow up the Aztek with a few more of the General’s IOE-worthy products. Such as, say, the Cadillac Catera. It’s just shocking that no LeMons team has seen fit to race a Catera, given that it’s a rear-drive, IRS-equipped German-built sports sedan with a 200-horse DOHC V-6 under the hood. Yes, this thing was quite the factory hot rod—or not—but you can get runners for peanuts nowadays. And, hey, we’d probably put a LeMons Catera with the MGBs and Dodge Dynasties in Class C.

Skoda Superb wagon Review

Skoda positions itself as an affordable European brand but the Skoda Superb could be considered something of an anomaly in the line-up of the Volkswagen Group’s Czech spin-off.

The company’s models are typically pitched with a lower price tag than it’s Volkswagen twins, but when it comes to the Superb Wagon that rule of thumb seems slightly out of whack.

Skoda prices their 2.0-litre 125TDI Elegance Superb wagon at $ 50,490 (before on-road costs) while the Volkswagen Passat wagon 2.0-litre 125TDI is priced from $ 45,990 albiet with less generous standard features such as eight airbags instead of nine, halogen headlamps (the Skoda gets Bi-xenon headlamps) and 17-inch alloy wheels to the Superb’s 18-inch alloys.

Make no mistake, the Superb wagon has all the hallmarks of a luxury car and then some. This is a sumptuously appointed family wagon with more space than many large SUVs offer.

There’s full leather trim, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable folding door mirrors with auto dimming, auto dimming rear vision mirror, heated front and rear seats, automatic directional bi-xenon headlights and auto wipers, a luggage restraint system and 18-inch alloy wheels, along with a host of other conveniences.

2014 Mazda6 to launch in Moscow

01 2014 mazda6628opt 2014 Mazda6 to launch in Moscow

Mazda will be revealing its mid-sized sedan 2014 Mazda6 Atenza at the Moscow Motor Show next week.

The new model will be powered by the aut0 manufacturer’s Skyactiv technology and draws its design from the Kodo “Soul of Motion” language. The Mazda6 is the second of a new generation of vehicles to adopt this following the CX-5.

The powertrain has also been incorporated with Mazda’s regenerative breaking “i-Eloop” system which includes stop/start technology, contributing to an improvement in fuel efficiency.

Auto Blog reports that, “The 2014 Mazda6 gets the new range of Skyactiv engines, including the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G (gas) engine that makes 110 kW (148 horsepower), sending power to the front wheels through either a six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic, or a six-speed Skyactiv-MT manual gearbox. The uprated engine is a Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter unit, developing 141 kW.”

As for the exterior, in the front view, Mazda incorporated the ‘signature wing,’ into a deeply sculpted face. The hood creases extend from the tips of the signature wing and flow into the body character lines.  The rear of the car features a wedged body, prominent rear fender and compact cabin.

According to chief designer Akira Tamatani, “We have created a design in which the wild and dynamic expressions of motion artistically realize a powerful presence.”

Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be Named ‘Monte Carlo’

Ferrari, Ferrari 458 Italia, New Supercar Rumours — By Lawrence on August 31, 2012 at 1:59 pm — 3 Comments

Ferrari 458 Monte Carlo Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be Named ‘Monte Carlo’

Rumours are circulating that suggest the next high-performance 458 variant will be called the Monte Carlo rather than ‘Scuderia’ or ‘Challenge Stradale’. Ferrari will almost certainly produce a track-bred version of the 458 Italia at some point in the future and it’s believed that the name will be Monte Carlo when it is released.

The rumours centre from Sjoerd van Stokkum, a Dutch journalist for the magazine, Quote. Our friends over at Autoblog.nl picked up on a tweet that he sent after hearing the news at Marenello. The exact tweet read: “Heard today in corridors around Maranello Ferrari: the 458 ‘scuderia’ goes montecarlo called and gets 620hp”.

If it does get called the Monte Carlo it will be a complete departure from the hardcore variants of all other current Ferrari brands. Take the F430 and the 360 for example. They both got Scuderia and Challenge Stradale names, in keeping with Italian heritage. The 599 meanwhile got the name GTO, an evocative moniker for any Ferrari model.

The expected launch date for the Monte Carlo is 2013. Let us know what you think in the comments box below.

2013 Nissan Sentra 0001 New 2013 Nissan Sentra is Larger Yet Lighter and More Efficient, Returns up to 40MPG
Nissan continues the new model assault on the North American market after the recent introductions of the mid-size Altima sedan and Pathfinder crossover with the next generation of the Sentra compact saloon.

If the 2013 version of the Sentra looks familiar, it’s either because it’s exterior design is modeled after the new Altima or you remember the third generation of the Asian market Nissan Sylphy sedan, displayed at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show in April.

We should point out here that the Russian market Nissan Almera, which debuted at this week’s Moscow Auto Salon is based on the previous, second generation of the Sylphy.

2013 Nissan Sentra 32 New 2013 Nissan Sentra is Larger Yet Lighter and More Efficient, Returns up to 40MPGIn comparison to the previous generation Sentra, the 2013 model sports a 0.6-inch longer wheelbase at 106.3 inches and a 2.3-inch longer overall length at 182.1 inches. On the other hand, it’s slightly lower in height (-0.6 inches) and narrower in width (-1.2 inches).

According to the Japanese carmaker, the new Sentra offers nearly identical total interior volume (111.0 cubic feet versus the previous 110.8) and improved trunk space at 15.1 cubic feet / 428 liters (+2.0 cubic feet).
