Unusual Comparison: Ford Focus ST pit against BMW M3 – Video
To promote the new Ford Focus ST, the Detroit-based automaker uses their creative minds to launch a comparison video against some of the sportiest midsize cars on the market: Mazdaspeed3, Subaru WRX and Volkswagen GTI. Among these, Ford decided, somewhat surprisingly, to include the BMW M3 Coupe as well.
Out of the bunch, only the M3 Coupe is powered by a large V8 engine.
The Focus ST uses a four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Total package cost: $ 24,495. As many of you know, the M3 uses the iconic 4.0 liter V8 naturally-aspirated engine that outputs 414 ponies and 295 lb-ft of torque. But it comes with a significant higher, and expected, premium price of $ 62,295.

Let’s have a look and tell us what you think of this marketing gimmick.

Report: Audi RS6 coming next year with 572-hp 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8

Audi is finally preparing its competitor to the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG – the all-new Audi RS6. First things first, the Audi RS6 will be available as a sedan and an estate (station wagon) and not just an estate like the new RS4, which is probably the most disappointing thing I’ve seen Audi do.
Either way, word on the street is that the Audi RS6 will carry an upgraded version of the 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 from the S6, S7 and S8. Output should come around 572-hp, which is the same as the old V10.
The engine will be mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed automatic and of course an all-wheel-drive system. 0 to 62 mpg will come around 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

Ford Sync Warns Drivers of Pollen Counts, Other Health Risks
Photo: Ford
Automakers are leveraging smartphone connectivity and apps to allow drivers to find everything from restaurant ratings and movie showtimes to the best gas prices and even friends in a given area. But Ford’s vision for its Sync system is to also tell drivers about their health and well-being. The first foray into playing doctor is allowing allergy sufferers who own a car with Ford’s Sync system to be warned of pollen content by pressing a button on the steering wheel and speaking a few commands.
The automaker announced the Allergy Alert smartphone app that aggregates information from Pollen.com is now compatible with Ford’s Sync AppLink feature, allowing drivers to hear specific allergen conditions in an area as well as the risk index for asthma, flu/cough/cold and ultraviolet rays. For now it only works with the Allergy Alert app on iOS devices. With the free app loaded on an iPhone or iPad that’s connected to the car, a driver can use voice commands to have info from the app read to them as well as having it shown on the dashboard’s infotainment display.
The GPS receiver identifies the vehicle’s vicinity when the driver says, “Current location,” while an “Allergy” command ranks the prevalence of pollen levels in the area on a scale from 0 to 12. Other verbal commands include:
- “Pollen” to pinpoint the predominant pollens in the air;
Opel Insignia Review
Price: $ 38,990 to $ 48,990
Medium cars have overtaken large car sales in Australia and the Opel Insignia, the new mid-sizer from General Motors’ German brand, is hoping to grab a slice of the action.
The Insignia represents the flagship of Opel’s range that goes on sale from September, sitting above the Corsa city car and Astra small car.
The Opel Insignia even fills a hole for GM in the medium-car segment while Holden waits another few months for its new Malibu to replace the floundering Epica.

As with the Corsa and Astra, the Insignia’s predecessor has history in Australia as a rebadged Holden – though it was then known as the Vectra.

9ff GTurbo1000 Rear Spoiler Collapses at 350km/h!
9ff, Car News, Porsche, Porsche 911 — By Lawrence on August 3, 2012 at 3:02 pm — No Comments

Something strange happened at the Nurburgring today involving a 9ff GTurbo1000. BridgeToGantry reports that as the owner travelled along the 1.5 mile Döttinger hohe straight, hitting speeds between 340 and 350km/h, the spoiler collapsed under the load pressure! Luckily, the owner, Knut Knuge, was able to stop as the wing simply folded in towards the bodywork. It demonstrates the forces involved in high speed racing though!
The car itself is heavily modified. It features a total output of 1000hp produced at 7,500rpm and 1000Nm at 5,200rpm. There’s so many changes on the car that listing them seems a little unnecessary! Instead, we’ll simply tell you that it features strengthened 9ff aluminium forged pistons, two watercooled Garrett GT35100R turbocharger’s running 1,6 bar boost from 4,600 up to 8,200rpm and a 9ff exhaust system.

We think the spoiler is steel, according to BridgeToGantry, it measured 3.8mm in depth. Just to add some clarity, it’s very rare that a race-oriented car hits 350km/h. This is just a freak occurrence that will no doubt be addressed by 9ff! Head over to BridgeToGantry for the full story.
ABT VW Beetle 2.0 TDI

The next Beetle model ABT got its hand on is a 2.0 liter TDI version. They’ve come up with a package that turns this diesel-powered Bug into a very interesting car. Right off the bat they increase the output of that TDI unit to 170 hp and 370 Nm. That is 30 hp and 50 Nm more than the standard, and makes the car about 0.6 quicker to 100 km/h. That is peachy.
But it’s not as peachy as what they have done to the Beetle’s body. The car gets a nicely designed body kit featuring a spoiler lip at front, side skirts, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and new mufflers. It looks, at least in black, pretty nice. A set of turbine design wheels, available from 18 to 20-inch, complement the looks and enhance the Beetle’s dynamics.
Other improvements include sport, lowered suspension, and high-performance brakes.
