2012 Bentley Continental GT W12 Tested: All Kinds of Grace and Pace Up In Here
You’ve just inked your first big-time pro-sports contract, scored your third top-ten single, or finally cracked the seal on that trust fund. You might think you’ve arrived on Easy Street, but now the real work begins: Dom or Cristal, Rolex or Breitling, Roller or Bentley?
A few years ago, the latter choice might easily have involved Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover, or BMW—Ferraris, Lambos, and similar exotics are second cars, of course—but Bentley is deep in the throes of its renaissance. In the first six months of 2012 alone, the VW-owned boutique brand peddled 3929 vehicles worldwide. Not bad for a marque that nearly slipped into obscurity in the late 20th century, surviving largely on rebadged models co-opted from then parent company Rolls-Royce.
With Bentley securely reinserted into the lexicon of popular culture, we grabbed some seat time in a Continental GT W-12, the twin-turbo, twelve-cylinder version of the brand’s bestselling model. (A V-8–powered Conti GT was recently introduced as a more efficient starter kit for the brand.)
What, Me Worry?
From the driver’s seat, all concerns regarding girth and efficiency dissipate like air flowing through the Continental GT’s fully ventilated leather seats. While it’s no Miata, the GT’s heft and size diminish significantly with each minute behind the wheel. The optional three-spoke wood-and-hide-covered steering wheel ($ 1150) has a sturdy, reassuring quality that defies its elegance. The weight of the speed-sensitive, ZF-supplied power steering is consistent before loading up a bit more at full lock, and the nose goes where you ask right away, although the rest of the car takes a beat to receive the message and the setup isn’t particularly insightful regarding road textures.

SSC Ultimate Aero XT Limited Edition

While the world is waiting with baited breath for SSC’s Veyron-bashing Tuatara, the American super car maker went ahead and made a new special version of the Ultimate Aero. The XT will be limited to only five units, and will be powered by the 1,300 horsepower engine from the Tuat. After these five examples are sold, the ugly Aero will be gone forever.
SSC apparently hasn’t finalist the design of the XT, as the pictures you see here appear to be a normal Aero Photoshopped in a black and red paint job . It’s still ugly as… stuff we can’t mention here. But it’s fast, very fast.
The Aero, remember, is the car that made Bugatti to make the Veyron SuperSport, because the normal 407 km/h car was slower than this. Now SSC is going after the Veyron SS with the Tuatara, but for unknown reasons they are yet to fully unveil the car and test its top speed.
The Ultimate XT is also decently equipped with stuff like power windows and mirrors, air condition, lift system for front, backup camera, DVD audio system, navigation, and…

Cyclists: Most Dangerous Intersections
Records reveal that at 24 accidents, the Ontario/Berri intersection is the most collision-prone, while the Crémazie/Christophe-Colomb intersection comes a close second. With 250 collisions overall, Sherbrooke Street has been proven to be the most dangerous route for cyclists.
According to this study, accidents are more likely to happen during the month of June or on Thursdays between 4 and 6 pm. So, if you happen to be riding a bike during rush-hour on a Thursday in June, you might want to avoid Sherbrooke!

EVO Compares New Ferrari F12berlinetta to 599 GTO

By now, you’ve probably read almost everything there is to know about the Ferrari F12berlinetta. Just four days ago, we also brought you the first two video reviews.
This time, Evo magazine has driven the fastest and most prancing horse ever – at least until the Enzo successor comes along later this year. Nothing to make a big fuss about, surely, since most leading publications will sample Maranello’s latest and, arguably, best supercar.
What’s different about this video review is that Evo’s road tester Jethro Bovingdon doesn’t just sample the new 730HP Ferrari on the track and public roads, but he goes one step further by comparing it to the car it overthrew as the fastest road-going prancing horse ever: the limited edition

2013 Nissan Pathfinder production version unveiled

Nissan has finally unveiled the all-new 2013 Pathfinder with a complete redesign, a luxurious interior and a bunch of technology packaged into a new unibody platform.
“Unveiling our next-generation Pathfinder is a major follow-up to the introduction of the all-new Altima sedan,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “With its bold new design, best-in-class fuel economy and family adventure capabilities, our dealers can’t wait to share this new model with customers in their showrooms.”
Nissan says that the 2013 Pathfinder’s off-loading capabilities are maintained even though the model is built on a unibody platform. Power comes from a 3.5 liter V6 engine making 260-hp mated to a CVT transmission that improves fuel-economy.
Fuel-economy comes in at 19/25 mpg (city/highway) and 21 combined for the 4WD model and 20/26 mpg and 22 mpg combed for the FWD model. Those are pretty impressive figures and expected since the Pathfinder did drop 500 pounds from the outgoing model.
However, one thing was sacrificed in all this unibody packing and weight savings – towing capability. While last year’s V8 m0del was able to pull 7,000 pounds the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder tugs 5,000 pounds.

Video: Range Rover Sport Prototype Spotted
Spy Videos, Spyshots — By Lawrence on August 4, 2012 at 5:52 pm — No Comments

WorldCarFans spotted this Range Rover Sport prototype on the British streets recently. We’re expecting the new Range Rover to make its debut at next months Paris Motor Show, however, the Range Rover Sport isn’t expected for a little while longer. The car has heavy camouflaging throughout which means that there’s very few details to share with you.
It looks as though the second generation Range Rover Sport will get the same characteristic sloping roof as the model it replaces. Expect styling cues to come from the highly successful Range Rover Evoque.

Car sales July 2012: winners and losers
The Toyota HiLux is on the verge of overtaking the Mazda3 to become the top-selling vehicle in Australia, while July proved another horrid month for the Ford Falcon.
The HiLux topped the national sales charts for the fourth consecutive month in July, beating the second-placed Mazda3 by 808 units (4163 versus 3355).
The HiLux now trails the compact Mazda by just 202 sales, and at this rate, with five months of the year to go, looks certain to overtake it before the end of 2012.

While the battle at the top intensifies, the Falcon continues to lose ground on the market leaders. The large family car endured its second worst sales month in history in July, plummeting to just 941 units. The result was only 10 sales clear of the 52-year-old nameplate’s worst ever result, which came in January this year.
There was no such pain for the Falcon’s traditional rival, the Holden Commodore, however, which enjoyed one of its strongest months for the year and outsold its production-line partner, the Cruze small car, by 524 units (2399 versus 1875).
