2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition – 2012 Monterey Weekend
Back in June someone paid $ 300,000 at a Barrett-Jackson auction for the privilege of owning the first production 2013 SRT Viper when it comes off the production line later this year.
The car ostensibly bidded on at the auction was a prototype and not the “real” car. Today SRT is unveiling the production car in Monterey in conjunction with this weekend’s extravaganza of events.
Chrysler says the limited edition 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition will evoke memories of past Viper Coupe launches in 1996 and 2006. It features the famous GTS Blue paint with dual white stripes and will be exclusive to this launch edition.
In addition to this paint scheme, the wheels on the SRT Viper Launch Edition have a special five-spoke polished forged-aluminum design. “Stryker” badges found on the hood and steering wheel add to the exclusivity, with a blue background replacing grey found on all other 2013 SRT Vipers models.
The new Stryker logo is the first new emblem for Viper since 2003 and the third incarnation of a Viper logo, following “Sneaky Pete” and “Fang.”
SRT suggests a serialized dash plaque in the cockpit enhances the Viper’s collectability by aligning the build sequence number to the vehicle identification number. Black Laguna leather with contrast stitching covers the seats, door trim, instrument panel, steering wheel, grab handle, shift knob and center console. Alcantara covers the headliner and white bezels are finished in Satin Silver.
The 2013 SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS models are powered by an all-aluminum, mid-front mounted 8.4-liter V-10 engine that delivers 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque. SRT claims this is the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world.
If you want to see the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition in person and you don’t have a ticket to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this weekend, don’t worry. You can view it free of charge since one will be displayed on the Concept Lawn in front of the Lodge at Pebble Beach all day Saturday and Sunday.
