Based mostly on the NV200 small van, Nissan’s e-NV200 Concept combines an electric powertrain to a versatile and spacious cockpit.

About the same size as the Mazda5, the Chevrolet Orlando and the Ford C-MAX, the e-NV200 Notion is motivated by an 80-kW electric motor that pumps out 207 lb-ft of torque. The lithium-ion batteries are mentioned to supply a driving array similar to the Nissan LEAF’s, which signifies about 160 km.

Unsurprisingly, the e-NV200 Concept shares a lot of styling cues with the LEAF, like the front charging port door and the sweeping headlights in addition, the present car is painted in the exact same Aqua Blue colour as the LEAF in the course of its own auto-display unveiling.

Actual globe testing of the electric NV200 is currently underway, with trials at present in Japan and London. Feedback from this testing will support the brand tailor their EV vehicles to various markets and uses, as Nissan figures there is mass production potential for the vehicle. In late 2013, the NV200 is scheduled to hit the streets of New York as a yellow taxicab.

DEARBORN, Michigan — Best speed is Ok … if you are a racecar. If you’re an electrical car, the speed that is a lot more important is charging time. In this regard, the new 2012 Ford Focus Electric has some bragging rights.
Amongst the many technologies integrated in this EV is a new and rapid on-board charger. “The best in the industry,” says Steve Ross, whose official title is Merchandise Advertising Manager, Sustainability and Electrification, Ford of Canada. (His unofficial title is Advertising Guy For Something With a Battery.)

Ford claims the six.six kW charger on the Ford Concentrate Electric requires only a few to 4 hrs to charge a fully depleted battery when hooked up to a 240V, 32-amp charging station. By way of comparison, the Nissan LEAF has a 3.3 kW charger and will take about 6 to eight hrs to obtain a complete charge from a 240V supply.

According to Ross, this quicker charging rate is a strategic component of Ford’s electric autos, and a single that will ultimately give owners of its EV significantly less to be concerned about when it comes to variety nervousness, as when they are ready to charge during the day, either at home or at a station along their route, they will be able to get more juice in a shorter quantity of time, to drastically extend the kilometres they have at their disposal on any given day.

The Ford Concentrate Electric’s variety on a full charge is 260 km.

This month Ford proudly exposed that the new 2012 Ford Concentrate Electrical will be the 1st all-electrical 5-seat vehicle to accomplish a fuel effectiveness rating of 100 MPGe.

This sneaks it just ahead of Nissan LEAF, with a 99 MPGe rating, but a fair shot below the 4-seat Mitsubishi i-MiEV, with its 112 MPGe rating.

The Chevrolet Volt, whose gas engine is ostensibly just for charging its electrical motor, has a rating of 60 MPGe (a figure that consists of both gasoline and electric energy use).

All these figures are combined city/highway figures (weighted 55% city, 45% highway). This is all effectively and good, but you may well be asking, “What exactly is MPGe?”

It is the brainchild of the US-primarily based Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA has been testing vehicles under its personal set of test protocols for decades, to arrive at comparative fuel economic climate ratings for new autos — the fuel economic system numbers Americans see on the window stickers of new autos.

When electrical autos fist began showing up, the EPA had to think about which “metric” to use to describe the comparative electrical vitality use of the respective EV models. It did a examine and found US consumers actually, genuinely like MPG and really, genuinely don’t want to move to yet another “metric.”

And they surely didn’t want to use anything at all with kilowatt-hours of electrical power (kWh), the unit of electric measurement utilised on our residence electrical bills. The overwhelming sentiment relayed by surveyed consumers was, “Keep it basic and present it in a way that is acquainted.”

The study even noted that concentrate group participants favoured MPGe for electrical vehicles “in spite of the reality that they did not recognize, nor did they experience the need to understand, how an MPGe metric was calculated. This once again suggests that the wish for simplicity and familiarity outweighs the wish for precise details.”

Toyota promised Prius lovers a full loved ones of hybrids a number of many years ago and now, they’ve delivered. The 2012 Toyota Prius c is the newest and most accessible member of Toyota’s popular line of compact hybrid vehicles. Commencing cost is anticipated to be under $ 21,000.

The “c” stands for “city” in the event you have been wondering and this is wherever this modest automobile is developed to thrive.

The c is shorter, lighter and a lot more compact in every way compared to the standard Prius. This, in large part, explains why the 2012 Toyota Prius c will be motivated by an Atkinson-cycle one.five-litre, four-cylinder engine. On its own, it generates 73 hp and 82 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor is excellent for 60 hp or 45kW. Combined, they are rated at 99 hp.

The diminutive car is roomy enough for 4 occupants and some gear as the fuel tank and nickel-metal hydride battery are located under the rear seats. The exterior shell is plainly developed with a youthful purchaser in mind.

Fuel consumption numbers are extraordinary. According to Toyota, the 2012 Toyota Prius c’s mixed rating of 3.7 L/100 km is the best this side of non plug-in automobiles.

WAYNE, Michigan — In an era significantly less concerned about fossil fuel consumption, this vast factory was acknowledged as the Michigan Truck plant. It built Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators, even though additional back in its history, in the fifties and sixties, it developed Ford’s yacht-like station wagons.
Now it is referred to as the Michigan Assembly Plant, and it’s all about staying present day and green. Ford just invested $ 500 million so it could make the 2012 Ford Concentrate and some its variants, and do so in a extremely green way.

Concentrate production started out in the spring of 2011. In November, it started to generate the 2012 Ford Focus Electric, right on the very same line as the gas-driven Concentrate models.

Electrical Production
&#13
“When the C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi go into creation here, we will be the first plant in the planet to have (such) an integrated develop,” stated John Fleming, Ford’s Executive Vice President, International Manufacturing. “The plant will be responsible for putting in five different powertrains – two diverse gas engines, a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and a battery electrical – all on the same line.”

The condition neatly illustrates Ford’s electrical technique –electrify a platform, not a single model, and make gasoline and electric designs related enough that they can share several elements and manufacturing processes. It also tends to make sense from a sales standpoint. If electric vehicles are hard sells, plant production can easily to switch to other designs.

“Each station is ready to accept any kind of car that comes their way,” notes Fleming. “Because we are electrifying platforms and not one-off specialty automobiles, we can manage to assemble the automobiles affordably, and with the same good quality measures as the traditional fuel models rolling down the exact same line.”

Body development has traditionally been the assembly task that hinders and/or limits a plant’s flexibility. In the previous, every single certain entire body part required a precise set of tooling, so each body element could be found, clamped and welded. The plant’s state-of-the-art tooling methods can be programmed for each automobile coming down the line, eliminating the want for model-specific tooling and/or downtime for tooling changeover. The use of this tooling makes this plant the most flexible, higher-volume facility in the Ford loved ones.

The Fusion has been a huge hit for Ford since its arrival in 2006 in Canada. In the US, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are much more frequently considered by the purchasing public. It would seem as even though this will all alter now.

Aesthetically inspired by the Euro Mondeo, the new Fusion has a far far more dynamic and fluid appeal. It will be motivated by a two.0L 4-cylinder engine and electrical motor that combine for a total of 185 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque. The kicker is that Ford expects the vehicle to consume as small as 5.0L per 100 km in the city and 5.3L on the highway. This would make the 2013 Fusion hybrid the most productive midsize hybrid of all.

Mitsubishi is banking on the small, technologically advanced and quite green. Their novel all-electric i-Miev has already drawn a lot consideration from the media and buyers alike. Proving to be rather popular, the Mitsubishi i-Miev may possibly be the most urban-friendly four-seater in North America.

The genuine bit of news is in the coming of an all-new modest automobile from Mitsubishi. Acknowledged as the Mirage in Japan, this subcompact is based on a special platform and, when it comes to Canada in 2013, will be driven by a one.0L 3-cylinder engine. Transmission selections will be a five-speed manual or a CVT.

LOS ANGELES, California – I happened to stumble upon a curious sight at the recent L.A. auto show – a car so small, it was unloaded by forklift truck. What I could see of its rotund backside is that it sported X-shaped taillights, looking disconcertingly like the eyes of deceased cartoon characters.
Curious, I decided to investigate – was it a design school exercise? Another odd little Japanese electric concept?

Neither. The Doking XD prototype, strangely enough, is the product of a Croatian company that, for 20 years, has designed and built heavy machinery and robotic equipment for both the mining and firefighting industries. Tiny, at only 2.85 metres long, the XD boasts luxury, compact city driving and unbelievable acceleration in one miniscule package.

The XD is the brainchild of Doking CEO Vjekoslave Majetic, fulfilling a childhood dream of a luxurious city car that can do double-duty on the race track.

Huh? How does what looks like the mutant run offspring of a smart fortwo qualify as anything resembling a race car? Well, it’s available in two models; one, your average modest city car, the other a potent sleeper.

Thanks to four 45-kW electric motors, one at each wheel, the all-electric XD4 can blast from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and boasts a 220-km range. With all four motors engaged, output is 220 hp and a staggering 532 lb-ft of torque. The XD4 can function as a front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or AWD car depending on the driver’s whim.

The more modest XD2 has a slight range advantage at 250 km and weighs 1,200 kg. It has a maximum speed of 140 km/h and reaches 100 from 0 in 7.5 seconds.

Power is stored in a 33-kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery system that’s produced in-house. Sandwiched between the floor, the 320-kg battery pack adds stability to the overall handling.

The tiny XD boasts an odd but riveting design. First, the scissor doors open skyward, Lamborghini-style. Its unique layout features the driver in the centre and, quite surprisingly, accommodates two passengers in the back. Not only does this enhance the XD’s image as a sporty race machine, according to Majetic, the middle seat is the safest place for the driver to be.
