BMW’s pavilion, which has a floor room of 800m2, will be created on an elevated site above the Waterworks River, situated amongst the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre. Serie’s modern layout will use river water to provide a sustainable resource of cooling for the building prior to returning this filtered water to the river through an eye-catching ‘water curtain’ function.

BMW Group, Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, today revealed the winning design for its pavilion at the Olympic Park.

Following a competition involving six architecture firms, BMW selected the British firm Serie based on its cutting-edge design that will represent a significant architectural addition to the Olympic Park, whilst also reflecting the company’s deep commitment to sustainability.

Tim Abbott, Managing Director, BMW Group UK comments: “As a major investor, manufacturer and employer in the UK, BMW Group is deeply proud to be an official partner for Britain’s first Olympic & Paralympic Games since 1948.”

“This commitment to the UK is also reflected in our choice of a home-grown architecture practice to design our pavilion and we’re delighted that Serie’s final design reflects our commitment to sustainable thinking in such an innovative and eye-catching manner. We believe it provides a truly worthy addition to the Olympic Park”.

About the BMW pavilion

BMW’s pavilion, which has a floor space of 800m2, will be built on an elevated site above the Waterworks River, situated between the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre. Serie’s innovative design will use river water to provide a sustainable source of cooling for the building before returning this filtered water to the river via an eye-catching ‘water curtain’ feature.

Every element of the BMW pavilion has been designed to reflect the company’s heritage in environmental innovation. The two-story superstructure will be built of steel with high recycled content. Use of carbon-intensive materials such as concrete has also been minimised.

Serie co-founder and principal architect Christopher Lee comments: “The design takes the idea of the pavilion in the park – the Victorian bandstand – but instead of one pavilion we envision nine pavilions clustered together to form a family.”

The top floor will house a number of individual standalone pavilions, which will be used to highlight BMW’s latest vehicle innovations.

The lower floor will house a range of interactive visitor exhibits, articulating BMW’s vision for sustainable mobility and support for Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes including Rebecca Adlington, Tom Daley, Louis Smith and David Weir through the BMW London 2012 Performance Team programme. Over 8,000 visitors are expected to visit the BMW pavilion each day during the Olympic & Paralympic Games.

As Official Automotive Partner to London 2012 and a tier one sponsor, BMW Group will provide a fleet of around 4,000 vehicles to transport athletes and officials during the Games. This vehicle fleet will combine sustainable technologies including electric, hybrid and low-emissions diesel technologies to meet LOCOG’s challenging emissions target of 120g/km CO2 across the fleet.

BMW Group has also been ranked as the world’s most sustainable automobile company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the last seven consecutive years and is the only car manufacturer to have featured in these rankings every year since their launch.

BMW as a London 2012 Partner

BMW will provide 4,000 low emission diesel, hybrid and electric cars as well as motor cycles and bicycles to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) in support of the Games. These will principally be used as shuttles for athletes, officials, media, employees of the LOCOG, representatives of the national Olympic committees, the international sporting bodies of the IOC and sponsors.

LOCOG set ambitious CO2 emission targets for its operational vehicle fleet at London 2012. BMW will provide vehicles that average less than the 120g CO2 per kilometre required by LOCOG.

Speaking about the roof that is the major difference among the two designs, our latest scoop images give us a quite clear view of its styling.

If you take a close appear at the photographs of the existing and following generation of the Cayman that we’ve extra beneath, you may see that in the new model, the shape of the leading looks much more integrated into the car’s design and style and much less of an afterthought.

The windshield is a lot more raked although the side windows as properly as the rear end of the roof extend much more towards the back of the vehicle compared to the current Cayman. These adjustments along with the beefier and greater positioned rear fenders, and the shorter front and rear overhangs, result in a far far more sleeker-seeking and cohesive form.

The Cayman S prototype noticed here was fitted with fake headlamp and tail light decals covering the exact same redesigned units located on the most recent Boxster. Even so, one variation more than the Boxster that we did notice are the Cayman’s circular lamps (as a substitute of the thin strips) on the corner vents of the front bumper.

The interior was partially covered on the prototype but it really is evident that it has been carried over unchanged from the new Boxster featuring the larger-positioned center console inspired from the Panamera.

Aside from the evolutionary styling, the other highlight of the new Cayman is the light-weight aluminum entire body, which along with other enhancements, is believed to shed as a lot as 50kg (110 pounds) above the existing model.

We don’t assume any drastic modifications under the mid-mounted hood as the Cayman will probably launch with the identical enhanced flat six engines found in the Boxster, which consist of a 265HP two.seven-liter unit for the base model and a 315HP 3.four-liter for the S.

The new Cayman will make its debut by the end of the 12 months and go on sale globally in early 2013.

HRE Wheels unveiled a specific series of wheels for individuals who want a vintage appear. The Vintage Series consists of three wheel varieties, displayed in the renderings fitted to a Ferrari 458 Spider, a Lamborghini Aventador and a Porsche 911 (991) Carrera. Each wheel evokes models of the past for its respective automobile.

The Lamborghini Aventador wears the HRE Vintage 454, designed to seem like the unique Lamborghini Countach designs. The Ferrari 458 Spider wears a set of HRE Vintage 505, created to seem like the traditional 70′s and 80′s Ferrari designs this kind of as the 308, 288 GTO and F40. The last style is the HRE Vintage 501, a design modeled on racing Porsche’s of the previous.

Let us know what you think of the new models. Would you purchase a set for your exotic?

Immediately after a new retail record in 2011, BMW Motorrad has began off the new year with a strong plus. With sales of five,237 units (earlier year: four,714 units), 11.one % much more motorcycles had been delivered to consumers in January 2012 than in the previous 12 months.

Hendrik von Kuenheim, General Director BMW Motorrad: “After a record year in 2011, the new year has began very pleasingly for BMW. By no means just before have we sold as many motorcycles in the initial month of a 12 months as in January 2012. Our fresh new model range continues to attract sturdy demand all over the planet, and the incoming orders situation is constructive, as well. With the marketplace launch of the new maxi scooters C 600 Sport and C 650 GT this spring we are expanding our variety to consist of the facet of “Urban Mobility” and we anticipate further growth impulse in 2012.”

At the exact same time as the two scooter models, BMW has six new motorcycles to supply its clients: with the G 650 GS Sertão, the revised S 1000 RR, the unique boxer model R 1200 GS Rallye, the updated F 800 R and the particular designs of the K 1300 R and K 1300 S, BMW Motorrad continues to strengthen its substantial merchandise portfolio.

Based mostly on this ongoing product offensive, BMW Motorrad looks confidently ahead to the upcoming season in spite of demanding financial problems in some nations. Once again this 12 months, the bestseller is probable to be the big travel enduro R 1200 GS.

Husqvarna Motorcycles, the BMW Group’s 2nd motorcycle brand, provided 544 (previous year: 362 / + 50.three %) motorcycles to its dealer network.

Alongside its core organization in the off-road sports activities segments (sports enduro, motocross, supermoto), Husqvarna Motorcycles has extended its range to incorporate street bikes with the models NUDA 900 and NUDA 900R. The brand is anticipating a substantial increase in sales from the cars launched to the market in December 2011.

A GTspirit reader sent in these images of two Hummer H2′s that fell by means of the ice at Lake Balaton, Hungary above the weekend. Temperatures in Hungary have been as minimal as the rest of Europe recently, creating parts of the largest lake in central Europe to turn into frozen. It appears the owners of the two Hummers expected the ice to be significantly thicker than it actually was!

Both automobiles had to be towed out from the seashore of Balatonakarattya when the ice gave way underneath them. Each drivers have been provided fines of twenty.000 Hungarian forint, which sounded outstanding right up until we realised it converts to only 70 Euros! Nevertheless, the injury to the vehicles will most likely be enough of a deterrent to quit the drivers from making an attempt their luck once again.

Thanks to Simon for the story and the images.

Abdullah Al Ketbi is the owner of Dubai’s Alain Class Motors and what could very effectively be the greatest supercar dealership in the world. Abdullah gave Top Gear access to this extraordinary showroom filled with the world’s most rarified supercars wherever a Ferrai FF is tucked against a F430 Scuderia, which is nuzzling into a Versace edition Murciélago. Turn around and you are staring at a Reventon – Lamborghini’s most costly road vehicle ever – Ferrari 458 Italia, Maybach 57S and Mercedes C63 AMG Black.

Abdullah says that Alain Class Motors has “five individuals full-time to wash and wax as the automobiles get quite dirty outside and the less costly ones want cleansing two or three times a day.”

And by more affordable he, of program, indicates ridiculously high-priced. Braving the 30 degree weather outdoors is a Mercedes SLS, a brace of Porsche 911s, a genuine Shelby Mustang GT 350, a triplet of Porsche Panameras, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Hummer H1 and a Baja-spec V8 dune monster. “We also need to have two men and women complete-time to park them. It is a very hard occupation.”

The dealership is operating out of area to residence these magnificant automobiles and will be moving into larger premises. “We have 5 areas in Dubai and Alain at the moment, but we want room. This is 4,000 square feet, the new one will be 10,000. Company is good,” comments Abdullah.

The prolonged-time rumored BMW M135i exposed its front and rear-end for the very first time. The upcoming super sporty F21 hatchback was spied in Germany by a reader of our sister-magazine BimmerToday.

The M135i will join the new BMW M Functionality automobiles household and be sold along the M550d, X5 M50d and X6 M50d designs. The rear-wheel drive and gasoline-powered M135i will be offered in the fall in the two three and five door configuration.

Prior to the 12 months-finish, a BMW M135i xDrive will be launched as nicely.

The spied prototype sports activities the 1M’s Valencia Orange paint, and with the front and rear-end entirely revealed. The side view is still slightly blocked by a light camouflage that most most likely hides the aerodynamic lines running from rear to the front.

Compared to the common M Sports activities package for the 1 Series F20, the M135i front bumper is slightly redesigned with blacked out inserts in the outer air intakes. At the rear, the diffuser is surrounded by two tailpipes, a single on every single side.

The prototype also comes equipped with matte black exterior mirror caps, a various technique from the gray painted caps found on the M Overall performance autos.

The engine is the greatest enigma in the M135i. While BMW has refrained from even acknowledging this model, we feel the M135i will make use of a turbocharged, inline six-cylinder 3. liter engine with 320 horsepower.

We feel that the BMW M135i will be unveiled up coming month at the Geneva Motor Display.
