   This is an alright product:

   Pros:
   +Read & Reset Check Engine Light codes
   +Can read many OBD parameters (just not with the included program)

   Cons:
   -Slow. The refresh rate is at best 1-3 updates per second when reading OBD2 values. This is way to slow to be of much use.
   -Fuel mileage calculations with included software is woefully optimistic
   -Included software can only read a few parameters. There are some free software alternatives, but most of the good stuff is quite expensive

   Overall:
   Decent for CEL reading/resetting. Although, a cheap handheld device does the same thing and is more portable.
   Poor for monitoring values over OBD2. The refresh rate is too low to be of much diagnostic use.

   if you’re ok to use your laptop in conjunction with this tool then it will do it all for you. it works with the latest protocol (CAN), reads freeze frame, does real-time monitoring and shows you a bunch of other information with included OBDWiz software.

   I recently was looking for a device to connect my laptop with the OBD2 port on my SUV. I already have a small scanner that I keep with me for daily travel, but I needed another device when I wanted to do more in-depth observations of not just reading codes, but also reading the a/f (air/fuel) sensors that are an issue as the vehicle gets older. In addition, I wanted a device that would work with a wide variety of software. There were devices that were double the price of this device, but after careful observation I found this one worked with virtually every piece of software the devices twice the price worked with. I could not be more pleased. It works on my family’s vehicles and those of my neighbors and friends. You can always make a decision later on what kind of software you want to use, but the hardware decision is a simple one to make, Elmscan 5 Compact.
