Hyundai Elantra and Range Rover Evoque Snag 2012 North American Car and Truck Titles of the Year
And the winning entries for the 2012 North American Auto and Truck of the Year are the Hyundai Elantra and the Land Rover Variety Rover Evoque respectively. The announcement was made today on the sidelines of the 2012 Detroit Motor Display.
The winners for each and every category were chosen by a jury of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada.
This is the 2nd time that Hyundai has won the award, the first being with the Genesis sedan in 2009. The jurors gave the Elantra 174 points, versus 161 for the Passat and the 155 for the Concentrate, which had been the two other finalists.
Though many will rightfully disagree with the phrase, “truck of the year” as all the finalists were SUV/crossover designs, fact is that Land Rover secured its first ever win in the occasion securing 254 points against 142 for the Honda CR-V and just 94 for the BMW X3.
Final year’s winners were the Chevrolet Volt and the Ford Explorer.
