Recall for 2005-06 Lotus Exige and Elise for potential oil leaks
Lotus cars were known to be exclusive however, given that exclusivity, a few reports have emerged of Elise and Exige models being recalled by the company for oil leak problems. This is specifically limited to the 2005 and 2006 models.
As many as 17 owners came in to Lotus appointed garages and complained about this problem and it was only then that Lotus engineers took heed about this. Not only this, a Lotus Elise owner also reported that his car also caught fire. Some other owners said that the control of the vehicle was compromised due to this oil leak problem. Lotus says that there are about 5107 Lotus vehicles reported with this problem and the company would be sending all the recall letters or mails very soon to the affected people. Analysis says that the detachment of the oil cooler line from the fitting of the engine causes it to spray oil all inside the compartment where the engine is located and also fire chances of a fire spreading.
