Renault two-for-one sale hits Spain

Want to get a Renault Twizy electric car for free? Easy. How, you ask? Move to Spain and buy one of Renault’s slow-selling Laguna, Latitude or Espace models and the French manufacturer will throw in one of its quirky EVs for no extra cost.

The offer from Renault is a drastic attempt to move vehicles out of dealer lots, after new vehicle sales in Spain fell to a 19-year low in the first half of 2012.

The offer is essentially a ‘two birds, one stone’ approach, with Renault Spain’s large passenger cars and tiny two-seat electric quadricycle both lingering in dealerships.

With the Spanish-built Twizy priced from 6990 euros, the offer effectively adds $ 8170 in value to each purchase. In the case of the 21,550-euro ($ 25,190) Laguna Grand Tour wagon, the value of the free Twizy represents approximately a third of the purchased vehicle’s price.

The Renault Twizy was launched in France in March and has since spread to a number of other European markets. The 2.3m-long plug-in EV seats two occupants – with the passenger positioned directly behind the driver – and has a maximum driving range of 100km.

Renault Australia currently has no plans to sell the Twizy down under – or introduce a two-for-one offer on any of its other cars.
