Report: General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen considering merger
CARandDRIVER reports that General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen are considering a move to merge both corporations. However, C/D reports that the reasons for this potential merger are currently a little mysterious.
Currently, PSA Peugeot Citroen has been struggling, in which case the merger would make sense for them. However, General Motors’ interest isn’t as obvious.
C/D postulates that PSA’s manufacturing capabilities could help GM in terms of production for Opel, while R&D could possibly merge as well. Speaking of which, Opel’s fate has also been up in the air as Fiat SpA. and Magna-Steyr both expressed interest in Opel.
In a contributing report from Reuters, Opel and PSA Peugeot Citroen may merge.
Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. And if anything, I wonder if my random Peugeot spotting has anything to do with these plans. Should GM and PSA Peugeot Citroen merge, it could perhaps open some new doors for Peugeot and/or Citroen and the North American Market in the same way that Fiat’s acquisition of Chrysler allowed for a much easier reintroduction of the Fiat brand.
