BMWBLOG Comparison Test: 2012 BMW X5 35d vs. 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel
Who would have ever seen this coming? BMW and Porsche duking it out dueling Diesel Sport-Utes! Yes Porsche made diesel tractors in the ’50s and BMW has sold diesels for years in Europe, but this fight is happening on our shores. The BMW X5 35d has been selling successfully in the US since its debut in 2009. Now Porsche is bringing its 2013 Cayenne Diesel that has been available in Europe since 2009. Finally, the United States is getting access to some great diesel products that the rest of the world has been enjoying for years.
So how do these two stack up? Base prices are less than $ 1000 off from each other, they have nearly identical dimensions and six- cylinder diesels, so this is gonna be close.
History
In 1983, BMW introduced the US to realm of European diesels with the 524td. With low fuel prices, its anemic 115 hp and 155 lb-ft of toque, ran a rather sickly 0-60 time of 12 seconds. One can see why it wasn’t a big seller. The 524td mercifully lasted only one year in the US market. However, market conditions were significantly different in 2009 for the North American introduction of the BMW X5 xDrive35d. Overall fuel prices were up, fuel economy had taken on more importance, and BMW had advanced the diesel motor in refinement, performance and reliability. BMW has had years of experience making diesels for their passenger cars in Europe where two out every three new BMWs sold are diesels.

Roadmap: BMW future products
With Paris Motor Show upon us and the BMW rumormill churning more than ever, we wanted to take the time and look at future BMW products that we might see in the upcoming years. Some of the models we discussed below are set in stone and with a market launch date already set, but there are plenty others that fall under the “Rumor” category and scarce details are known about them.
The assumptions we’re making below are based on information from our own sources as well as using common sense and industry knowledge.
BMW 1 Series / 2 Series
In 2013, BMW will unveil the coupe and convertible variants of the redesigned 1 Series. The two models will be sold under the 2 Series moniker and will make their way into the U.S. market.

Report: Honda Americas to develop next-gen Civic from start to finish
MotorTrend reports on a prediction made by the AAA, which believes that nearly eight million cars will be equipped with start-stop systems by 2017 in North America. This apparently comes from the system being so popular.
Popular? The last time I remember, most of us in the automotive world shunned start-stop systems for their simple annoyance. That’s also the case here at egmCarTech, as none of us are very fond of it. Maybe popular as in, a lot of companies are doing it.
And looking around, a lot of cars are coming with the system to help increase fuel economy by eliminating the idle time of an engine. From something as basic as a Kia Rio, to the midsized Chevrolet Malibu Eco family sedan, and of course, the luxury cars as well.

Lexus Gives the 2013 LS Sedan a Little More Character with a Thorough Facelift
At long last and after more leaks than the proverbial bucket, Lexus came out with all the official details and pictures of its redesigned for the 2013 model year LS flagship sedan series, which was unveiled on Monday during a special happening in San Francisco.
While based on the fourth generation model that has been in production since 2006, the refreshed LS sedan gains a more dynamic exterior look along with a restyled interior and notable changes under the sheetmetal to fend off the German competition that comes in the form of the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
For the 2013MY, the LS line-up includes the LS 460, LS 460L (LWB), LS 600hL hybrid, and the first-ever LS 460 F Sport variant . The LS 460 and LS 460L are available in both RWD and AWD versions while the LS Hybrid is offered with a full-time AWD system.
The exterior makeover brings the LS in line with the latest Lexus models like the RX facelift and the new GS, providing the sedan with a crispier look up front thanks to the new spindle grille and the redesigned headlamps, bumper, hood and fender forms.
The profile remains the same but Lexus made changes to the rear end of the car that gains darkened tail lamps with a chrome strip divider, a re-sculptured boot and a new bumper design.

Renderings: F80 BMW M3 and F82 BMW M4
New renderings of the upcoming BMW M3 and M4 surface on the interwebs. Our sister magazine Bimmertoday, with the help of rendering artists, give us a look at how the new M models might look like.
For the F80 M3 sedan illustrated below the artist has missed a few things, mostly due to simply transposing design cues from the 1 Series M Coupe to the M3. The rendering also shows the F80 M3 with a bulge on the hood, a design element currently available on the E9x M3 models. At the rear, the 1M diffuser is used in these computer generated images.
The powerplant found under the hood is a newly developed 3.2 liter unit, still inline-six, which has its fundamentals in the current M3 engine, the S65 V8.
The engine is rated at 450 hp and with a new performance package it could reach 480 horsepower and a top speed of 300 km/h.

New Spy Photos: 2013 BMW 7 Series Facelift
The spy photographer from Car Forum CZ spotted the upcoming 2013 BMW 7 Series facelift.
We typically start our evaluation with the exterior design, but this time, let’s have a seem within. For the very first time, we have the chance to see redesigned gauges that will be made available in the facelifted 7er. The other important alter, not proven in these spy shots, is the introduction of a new iDrive method. Whilst the overall notion behind the iDrive stays unchanged, the primary addition to the system is a touchpad surface positioned on top of iDrive knob. The touchpad, related to the Audi method, will allow the driver and passenger to simply enter numbers and characters by means of gestures with no looking at the program.
Moving outdoors the auto, the F01 and F02 7er LCI models will characteristic full LED headlights that have been redesigned to seem sleeker and are smaller sized in size. Hidden underneath the camouflage is a new eyebrow which now hosts the turn signal indicator. The taillights remained unchanged but are slightly darker in colour than the current model.
All 7 Series LCI models will get the signal indicator integrated into the side mirrors.
