Report: 2014 Range Rover to no longer come with N/A V8, 3.0L Supercharged V6 replaces AJV8

rangeroversportsuv Report: 2014 Range Rover to no longer come with N/A V8, 3.0L Supercharged V6 replaces AJV8

The growing trend of disappearing V8s seems to continue as Land Rover enthusiast site OvalNews.com has stumbled upon a 2014 model year Range Rover marketing bulletin. And in that bulletin says a line: “The Range Rover (when available), and HSE trim levels will be powered by a new 3.0L supercharged V6 engine in place of the naturally aspirated 5.0L V8.”

So it appears that you can no longer get a V8 in the full-size Range Rover. Now that’s a bit disappointing to hear as one of the defining characteristics of the Range Rover was its silky smooth, yet robust V8 power.

Check out all the details on the 2013 Range Rover here.

2012 LA Show CarScoop Carscoop’s A to Z Guide to the 2012 LA Auto Show [Updated]
The U.S. may host two major automotive shows each year, in Detroit and New York, but what is undoubtedly the entertainment capital not only of the country, but of the whole world, is surely a good place to stage another one.

With just a few days remaining, some carmakers continue to keep the cars they will debut in Los Angeles under wraps, while others, such as Subaru with its Forester, Kia with the new Forte sedan and Volkswagen with the Beetle Convertible have already come out in the open.

No matter; Carscoop’s comprehensive A-Z Guide of the 2012 show is up and running and we’re constantly on the lookout for anything that will pop up over the next few days.

Road Test 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE Luxury Pack Road Test: 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE Luxury Pack

A new member of the Land Rover lineup has passed by our headquarters. The 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 Luxury Pack was part of our garage for the weekend, and we found out that it has more Range Rover than ever before. The extensive facelift and fourth iteration of the Discovery model series features many changes – more mechanical than cosmetic – with the new V6 diesel engine being the highlight of the special package available at our disposal.

The 3.0 V6 Diesel power plant produces up to 275bhp at 4,000rpm and a massive 600Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. Weighing 140kg less than Discovery 3 and with an additional amount of oomph over the previous engine, the Discovery 4 responds quite briskly and has enough forward push in the complete rev band. The throttle response is excellent with the engine delivering 500Nm in only 500 milliseconds from idle. This means you have instantaneous access to 83 percent of the maximum torque.

The eight-speed automatic transmission is another game changer in this package. It provides closer gear ratios with a higher overdrive ratio and allows for near seamless gear changes. Driver Type Detection monitors your inputs and the car’s systems to optimize the response of the gearbox to your style, while Curve Detection makes sure the gearbox avoids unwanted up shifts and holds on to the same gear when taking a sequence of bends.

Maserati tunes into Bowers & Wilkins audio partnership: co-branded speakers and headphones coming

Audiophiles will soon be able to buy Maserati-branded speaker systems and headphones after a deal that will also see British sound specialist Bowers & Wilkins provide audio systems for the Italian brand’s models from 2013.

Maserati and Bowers & Wilkins announced the new partnership at the 2012 Paris motor show. B&W has been looking for another luxury car manufacturer after Jaguar ended its arrangement with the company earlier this year to switch to Meridien.

Co-branded products will make their way into audio shops, though the key part of the partnership will see B&W audio systems fitted to models such as the upcoming next-generation Maserati Quattroporte limo, new Maserati Ghibli sports luxury sedan and, in 2014,the new Maserati Levante SUV.

B&W hasn’t released details of the audio systems that will be incorporated in the Maseratis but says it has worked closely with the Italian car maker to deliver an appropriate sound experience.

“I’m confident we’ve come up with something very special,” said Bowers & Wilkins executive vice president Evert Huizing. “By working closely with Maserati engineers, we’ve designed a system perfectly adapted to the unique challenges of the car environment, and one which will deliver great sound and transform the driving experience.”
