After many teasers to build up anticipation, the 2014 Range Rover Sport was finally officially revealed earlier today at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.
The 2014 Range Rover Sport goes the way of its lesser Evoque sibling in terms of styling, much in the same way the standard Range Rover did. But the biggest piece of news for this all-new 2014 Range Rover Sport, aside from the new styling, is that this new model benefits from a diet of 800lbs.
The other significant change includes the replacement of the 5.0L naturally aspirated Jaguar-sourced AJV8. In place of that is Jaguar-Land Rover’s new 3.0L supercharged V6. The 5.0L supercharged V8 can still be had in the top of the line Range Rover Sport Supercharged.
Prices start at just $ 63,495 for the base 2014 Range Rover Sport while the top dog 2014 Range Rover Sport Autobiobraphy, complete with the 5.0L supercharged V8, asks for $ 93,295 from its buyer.

The one-millionth Land Rover Discovery rolled off its UK production line in March 2012 and there’s no sign of sales abating for the vehicle that was essentially born as a more affordable version of the Range Rover.
Land Rover’s more utilitarian big 4WD has evolved successfully since its 1989 inception, with the Discovery 3 of 2004 making a huge leap in terms of increased levels of luxury and on-road manners.
It was replaced just five years later with the Land Rover Discovery 4, though this was more of a major facelift than full generational change.
In 2012 the ‘Disco’ received various tweaks to the entertainment and satellite navigation system along with a new entry-level eight-speaker sound system with colour display and full Bluetooth connectivity with phone and music streaming.
The mid-grade Hi-ICE Harman Kardon audio unit was also upgraded from 9 to 11 speakers and output boosted from 240 to 380-watts, while the top-spec premium Harman Kardon unit grew from 14 to 17 speakers with output rising from 480 to 825 watts.

The next-generation Land Rover Discovery 4WD could lose nearly half a tonne in weight, according to a company insider.
The new ‘Disco’ is due in 2014 and will be third model to be constructed from aluminium following the just-unveiled fourth-generation Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport that will be released in 2013.
Land Rover engineers managed to reduce the new Range Rover’s mass by a stunning 420kg for the entry-level TDV6 model.
Yet as remarkable as that figure is, a Land Rover source told CarAdvice at the recent Range Rover unveiling event in England that number is set to be beaten by the fifth-generation Discovery.
“The Disco 4 already weighs 2.7 tonnes so it’s got more to lose [than the Range Rover], so we think it will lose more weight [than the 420kg],” our insider revealed.
The last two generations of the vehicle have been badged Discover 3 and Discovery 4, but our source says the next version could possibly revert to simply ‘Discovery’ rather than being called Discovery 5.
The Range Rover is the reigning king of the road when it comes to luxury SUVs, though Land Rover’s iconic 4WD will face an increasing number of competitors in the next few years as the likes of Bentley and Maserati enter the arena.
The automotive landscape has also changed considerably in the 42 years since Rover Cars effectively created the luxury SUV segment when it launched a four-wheel-drive in 1970 that was designed to take Land Rover from the farm to the road.
And there’s continual pressure on big vehicles – especially the SUVs that have even been the subject of Greenpeace protests – to reduce their burden on the environment.
So it’s no surprise that Land Rover has aimed to pull out all the stops for the fourth-generation version of the Range Rover, which has just been revealed in England.

Today’s release gives us the full picture.
The fourth generation Range Rover features a brand new lightweight aluminium body, 39 percent lighter than the outgoing model and 420kg lighter. The bodywork sits at just under five meters long, around the same as the third generation. It gets a more streamlined design too with a drag coefficient of 0.34, less than the Evoque and significantly less than the outgoing model.
The Range Rover gets a next-generation version of Land Rover’s Terrain Response system which analyses the current driving conditions and automatically select the most suitable vehicle settings. It also gets an intelligent 4WD system, with a two-speed transfer box and an electronic traction control system. Wading depth is now 200mm deeper at 900mm and towing capability is greatly improved with a 3,500kg capability.
Engine availability will include two petrol engines, the 5.0 liter V8 rated at 375hp and the Supercharged version with a familiar 510hp. Two diesel options will also be made available with a 3.0 liter TDV6 option rated at 258hp and a 4.4 liter SDV8 rated at 339hp. All four engine options will be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration figures for the Supercharged Range Rover are 0-60mph in just 5.1 seconds, a reduction of 0.8 seconds over the previous model.
A particular, shall we say evocative, child model in the line-up may be grabbing most of the focus at the minute, but the Assortment Rover Sport remains a crucial model for the British 4WD brand.
