SEMA Drifting – 2012 SEMA Show
What stayed in Vegas this week was mainly a lot of Falken rubber courtesy of drift champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. in his Monster-sponsored RTR Mustang and fellow demo driver Justin Pawlak.
That’s because for several years Falken tires and Ford have thoroughly black-striped the front parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center the fun way, with smoking rear rubber. It’s all part of the sprawling Specialty Equipment Marketing Association show, or simple SEMA as everyone calls it.
This year we unexpectedly supplied about 250 lbs of the ballast used to hold a once perfectly good set of Falken FK452 ultra high performance tires against the convention center’s pavement when Ford public affairs pigeon-holed us for a quick demo ride with Falken pro drifter Justin Pawlak.
Normally we’d feign the press of business and continue our rounds at the busy show, but as the public can also line up for speed dates with Pawlak and Falken team leader Vaughn Gittin Jr., we sensed our editorial obligation to report on such an enthusiast’s opportunity and made the sacrifice.

A few more details have surfaced for the 2013 Range Rover after its official unveil at the Royal Ballet School in Richmond Park, London last night. We also have a monster gallery of images to share with you too! Back when Land Rover released official details of their range-topping off-roader, we got a few key details and only six pictures. Today’s release gives us the full picture.
The fourth generation Range Rover features a brand new lightweight aluminium body, 39 percent lighter than the outgoing model and 420kg lighter. The bodywork sits at just under five meters long, around the same as the third generation. It gets a more streamlined design too with a drag coefficient of 0.34, less than the Evoque and significantly less than the outgoing model.
The Range Rover gets a next-generation version of Land Rover’s Terrain Response system which analyses the current driving conditions and automatically select the most suitable vehicle settings. It also gets an intelligent 4WD system, with a two-speed transfer box and an electronic traction control system. Wading depth is now 200mm deeper at 900mm and towing capability is greatly improved with a 3,500kg capability.
Engine availability will include two petrol engines, the 5.0 liter V8 rated at 375hp and the Supercharged version with a familiar 510hp. Two diesel options will also be made available with a 3.0 liter TDV6 option rated at 258hp and a 4.4 liter SDV8 rated at 339hp. All four engine options will be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration figures for the Supercharged Range Rover are 0-60mph in just 5.1 seconds, a reduction of 0.8 seconds over the previous model.

The thing that really impresses me the most is that he got permission from the authorities in the second most densely populated city in the country to close the Bay Bridge as well as numerous city and residential streets. Chrysler 300C: second generation armed with super-sharp pricing
The Chrysler 300C has had its prices reduced and range extended for the second iteration of the bold-looking American sedan as the US brand looks to overcome its struggle in the Australian market.
The company has lowered 300C prices across the board and introduced a new entry level model for a new starting price of just $ 43,000, $ 10,000 less than the starting price of the first 300C introduced locally in 2005.
The monster SRT8 variant now costs $ 66,000, posing a more serious threat to local V8 muscle cars from the likes of HSV and FPV. This is a significant shift from the $ 71,990 price attached to the first generation.
Chrysler’s new 300C arrives at a time when the brand has sold a pitiful 51 cars so far in 2012, not helped by a line-up that otherwise only includes the diesel-only Grand Voyager people-mover.
Three engines feature across the Chrysler 300 range, a six-cylinder petrol, six-cylinder turbo diesel and the big daddy 6.4-litre V8 powering the SRT8 – the same engine in the rip-snorting Grand Cherokee SRT8 due here later this year.
