While the entire automobile industry is gung ho about going green, then why should Skoda Auto be left behind? The manufacturer who enthralled us with their new logo and subsequent concept cars is now planning to rope in the green brigade and in this earnest, have started the production of an electric car. This new electric car is called as the Octavia Green E Line. This is taken as the next level for the manufacturer.
The current Octavia Estate forms the basis for this new electric car. A motor which is rated for 114 Hp and which is ably supported by a Li-ion battery putting out 26.5 kWh of power propels this E Line car from 0-60 mph in 12 seconds, the 199 Lb of torque aiding it in the process. Though there is nothing commendable in the 87 miles range that this car projects, it nonetheless is a step in the right direction by the Czech manufacturer. Top speed of this estate is estimated to be around the 85 mph mark. First Skoda to wear the winged arrow logo
If you’ve ever wondered what the SKODA logo is all about, and when it first appeared?
Exactly eighty-five years ago, on this very day in Mlada Boleslav, Czechoslovakia, the luxurious SKODA Hispano Suiza rolled off the assembly line wearing the now familiar winged arrow logo.
That car, like all ninety-nine other SKODA Hispano Suiza vehicles, was custom-built to each customer’s specifications. The first car, as shown in these two photographs, was built for the President of Czechoslovakia at the time, Tomas Garrigue Masaryk.

Skoda seems to be shedding its old style language for a new bolder corporate design direction. The aim is to highlight Skoda’s green line up while differentiating the brand from others in the Volkswagen group. The VisionD is the first such concept car under this new design direction, the overall effect is a simple, clean design that is to feature in all future Skoda cars.
The VisionD is quite a pretty car. The design is unobtrusive and taut. Compared to other family hatchbacks on sale in Europe, the the Czech automaker’s concept emulates a class and sophistication usually seen in more premium vehicles. The most prominent feature of the car’s design is the sharper more dominant grill, one that again would not look out of place on a car two classes larger.
The main focal point of the grill is the all new emblem. The new Skoda logo and script are part of the new brand rejuvenation. As previously reported, the logo leaves behind the natural green hue for the all new “ŠKODA Green” with a chrome contour. The objective of the new design language and logo is to highlight Skoda’s growing strengths internationally.

Volkswagen prices will have to rise if the Pound continues at its current low level against the Euro, says the new group head of sales and marketing, Dr Christian Klingler.
‘Up to now we are handling the strength of the Euro, but if the Pound stays at a low level prices will rise,’ said Klinger.
It is a problem VW faces in other countries with weak currencies, including America. That is one reason why VW is moving away from the idea of global cars -the strategy that Ford is pursuing – and starting to focus on local production tailored to specific markets.
VW will open its first U.S factory at Chattannooga, Tennessee, in the middle of 2011. It will produce a mid-sized saloon for America, Canada and Mexico at the rate of 150,000 models a year, which means the next-generation Passat is unlikely to cross the Atlantic.
‘One of the reasons for choosing Chattanooga is exchange rates,’ said Klingler, ‘but we must also consider the needs of our customers in different areas of the world. We try to adapt our cars for the needs of the market.’
