2015 mini Jeep will be ‘trail-rated’
A new mini Jeep will not damage the brand’s tough image.
That’s the promise from Jeep president Mike Manley, who told CarAdvice that at least one version of its upcoming micro machine will be ‘trail-rated’, meaning it will have strong off-road capability.
The new model will take on models like the Skoda Yeti and upcoming Ford EcoSport in a new sub-small SUV segment when it arrives in 2015.
It will be produced in both right- and left-hand drive and is almost certain to be offered in Australia.
Various reports had suggested the baby Jeep would be built off the same base as the Fiat Panda, but Manley said that was not the case.
“It’s not off the Panda. It is a Fiat-derived platform, but we could have an hour discussing what is a platform, but let me say it is on Fiat technology,” he said.

The Mystery of the Flattened Down Skoda Models Solved
A couple of days ago, we showed you a video of two heavy-duty tractors destroying a new Skoda Superb and asked if any of you, our readers, had information on what was going on in this clip. It didn’t take long for one of you to solve the mystery.
Carscoop reader Michał Jakóbik emailed us a link to Czech website Autocz that not only explains everything but also includes three more videos of the tractors putting down a Fabia estate, a Yeti crossover and an Octavia Scout.
As it turns out, the four brand new models were sacrificed by Skoda for a local competition among several fire departments from the Czech Republic where fire fighters recreated an accident scene and tried to save people (we assume they used test dummies) trapped inside in under 20 minutes.

Hyundai to launch SUV smaller than ix35
Hyundai is preparing to launch an all-new small SUV in Brazil and will consider offering it close to the globe if it proves successful in Latin America.
The South Korean brand’s director of worldwide public relations, Frank Ahrens, told CarAdvice Hyundai’s smallest SUV would be constructed on an all-new light-automobile-sized B-section platform in a brand-new factory in Brazil, which opens later this year.
“We’re going to start with a little five-door hatch – we’re codenaming it HB – then there’ll be a 4-door sedan, identical B-section, and then there’ll be a little SUV,” Aherns stated.
“It’s fairly cute, I have to say, and it’s smaller sized than Tucson [ix35].”
“If that performs there – and I consider it will be rather well-liked in Latin America – we’ll export it throughout Latin America and consider a seem at other markets about the world.”

Mazda CX-5 targets Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4
