Audi wants to Double SUV and Crossover Lineup with Q2, Q4 and Q6 Models
Many gearheads and journalists alike have whined and moaned about premium automakers diluting their brands’ cachet by developing SUVs and crossovers, but the truth is, that’s where the growth is these days. Just look at Porsche and the Cayenne.
Compared to its home-market rivals BMW and Mercedes, Audi was late to the party having launched its first entry in the SUV segment only eight years ago with the full-size Q7, which was followed by the compact Q5 in 2008 and Q3 in 2010.
This year, the Ingolstadt-based brand introduced its first high-performance compact SUVs with the SQ5 (diesel-powered in Europe, gasoline-powered in North America) and the RS Q3.
However, Audi’s affair with the segment is far from over as it has plans to double its sport-utility vehicle (SUV) offerings by 2020 and close the sales gap with BMW. A person familiar with the strategy told BusinessWeek that Audi is developing three new models, the Q2, Q4 and Q6, all of which will be sportier looking and handling alternatives to the Q3, Q5 and Q7 respectively.
Mercedes-Benz and BMW are also looking to create a similar crop of more athletic SUVs to enhance their current range.

Yes, you read that correctly and we did not place the models in the wrong order; it’s the almighty Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R that’s doing the chasing most of the times in this crazy meet up with an Audi RS6 Avant ABT on Germany’s largely speed-limit free Autobahn.
We’re told that the tuned super-station wagon makes 700-horses, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it was more, and you won’t be either after you watch the Audi overtaking the Kawasaki, which was travelling at a speed of 300km/h (186 mph), with ease in the second video at the 12-second mark.

Toyota’s All-Time Sales Surpasses the 200 Million Mark, Corolla Leads the Pack with 39 Million Deliveries
The Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has reached an important milestone in its history as the Japanese automaker announced that in June, its worldwide cumulative vehicle production surpassed 200 million units, 76 years and 11 months after the introduction of its first vehicle, the Model G1 truck in August of 1935.
The Model G1 was produced at Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd.’s Automotive Department, which was spun off and later became what we know today as the Toyota Motor Corporation.
Of the 200 million vehicles, 145.21 million were built in Japan and 55.12 million in overseas markets. The company pointed out from 1992 to the end of 2011, it has produced 7.44 million units at its European facilities in the Czech Republic, France, Portugal, Russia, Turkey and United Kingdom.
TMC President Akio Toyoda commented:
“I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to our customers the world over who made it possible for us to reach this milestone. I also have the most profound respect and gratitude for the efforts of all persons who were involved in developing, manufacturing, and marketing Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the years. We are determined to make our cars even better, to continue to give our customers the best possible product. This is the common goal of our 300,000 Toyota staff members worldwide.”
