2010 Woodward: Imports that aren’t from around here

Imports: 2010 Woodward – Click above for high-res image gallery

Not everything that trawls the potholes of Woodward Ave. during the Dream Cruise was made in America. A lot of cars aren’t from around here, and for all intents and purposes are imports. We’re not just talking about Japanese cars, either. These imports more often than not come from Europe, and are just as classic as anything that Detroit screwed together.

Truth be told, we didn’t capture as many imports as we would have liked in between dodging rain drops and trying fill all of our other galleries. But we went ahead and built a high-res gallery with the shots we got because, well, we got a few really good shots of some classic Porsche 911s, and we figured some of your Porsche fanatics might like a new desktop wallpaper. Enjoy!

2010 Woodward: Ford display takes over 9 Mile and Woodward

Filed under: Ford, Misc. Auto Shows

Woodward 2010 – Click above for the high-res image gallery

Ford always comes strong at the Woodward Dream Cruise, and this year the corner of 9 Mile and Woodward is a packed as ever. And of the dozens and dozens of vehicles on display, most every model was of the Mustang variety. Ford brought along plenty of GTs and GT500s, along with a few spanking new examples of the 2012 Boss Mustang. Then of course there are the many legacy Mustangs of decades past, supplied by Ford, its employees and, we’re presuming, a few Mustang fan clubs.

But while the Mustang is the heart of The Blue Oval’s Woodward lineup, Ford brought along some of its newer models to show off, as well. On hand were the 2011 Edge Flex Titanium and the recently unveiled 2011 Explorer. Small cars were also on display, with a stickered-up Fiesta and a pair of totally hot lime green samples of the Focus RS. Jump into the gallery below to enjoy the view of Ford Motor Company at the 2010 Woodward Dream Cruise.

Rolling Out on the Ford Fiesta World Tour 2010

2011 Ford Fiestas at Santa Monica Pier

And… He’s off!!! After six months of planning, a 60 day, 21 country, 15,000-mile circumnavigation of the globe started this morning on Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles, and our ace MT contributor Jeremy Hart is going along for part of the ride.

2011 Ford Fiestas side-by-side

Between now and mid October, the ‘Fiesta World Tour 2010′ will cross the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East, China, Southeast Asia and finally Australia — on the other side of the Pacific from the Baywatch beaches of L.A.where the tour started.

The cars Hart and Co. are driving on the first leg are Mexican-built 2011 Ford Fiestas, which was just starting to hit U.S. streets. The brightly colored pocket rockets have already created a bit of a buzz.

“You taking those round the world??!”  one early morning jogger on the pier asked Hart. “That’s cool.”

Media from the U.K., U.S. and Australia are the drivers of the first sector from Tinseltown to Sin City. On the itinerary for Day 1 is a stop at Hollywood’s stunt driving school, a visit to Jay Leno’s garage and a egg cook-off on the sizzling hot Fiesta bodywork in Death Valley, where today’s temperatures are due to hit 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Sounds like a scorcher, good luck with that, Jeremy…

Stay tuned as Jeremy will be filing occasional reports from around the world during his adventures on the Fiesta World Tour.

Video: F1 2010 is too realistic in the wet

Click above to watch the video after the jump

Codemasters’ F1 2010 doesn’t appear to be getting the same kind of press as Gran Turismo 5 or even DiRT 3, but a recently released in-game video could change that. The upcoming Formula 1 game is scheduled to hit stores in September, complete with damn-near photo-realistic gaming action that has us drooling. And we’re not talking about those fanciful panning, aerial beauty shots that you see in some of the theatrical-looking promos for games. This is actual in-car, live racing footage. In the rain. Hit the jump to experience F1 2010 from the virtual cockpit of a Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 car.

Review: 2010 Lexus HS 250h

A Perfect Prius It Is Not

2010 Lexus HS 250h – Click above for high-res image gallery

Lexus likes to say that it pursues perfection. Toyota’s luxury brand has been playing the hybrid game for a while now with converted gas-powered models like the LS, GS and RX hybrids, and few would argue that these models represent the zenith of what a luxury hybrid can be. For that, Lexus finally decided to build a dedicated hybrid model from the ground up, and the result is the HS 250h.

Being that the brand’s parent company builds the Prius, the industry benchmark for hybrids in terms of both fuel efficiency and popularity, Lexus has, on the one hand, a much deeper well of hybrid expertise from which to draw than its competition. On the other hand, it has the toughest act to follow in the third-generation Prius. In the minds of many, a true Lexus hybrid should be everything Toyota’s magic bean is and more – it should be the perfect Prius.

Funny thing, the HS 250h is not. Lexus hasn’t built an upmarket version of the Prius with the HS 250h. Perhaps realizing that after three generations creating about as perfect a parallel hybrid as there is, Lexus up and decided that its own luxury hybrid should have a different mission. Unfortunately, after a week spent behind the wheel of a 2010 HS 250h Premium, we’re not still not sure what that mission is. Follow the jump to learn what else we found confusing about Lexus’ latest hybrid.
