According to the guys over at Autoblog, VW is going to unveil the diesel-powered 2013 Beetle TDI at the Chicago Auto Show next month. VW hasn’t released any official details about the diesel Beetle, but it’s expected that it will be powered by the same 2.0L turbo-diesel that powers the diesel Golf, Jetta and Passat models.
In the Golf, the 2.0L diesel generates 140 horsepower and 236 lb-ft. of torque and gets up to 42 mpg. The diesel will be also reportedly be offered in the upcoming Beetle convertible, which is going to arrive later this year.

U SPY: 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe Shows up in California

One of our eagle-eyed readers snapped these exclusive photos of a not-so-heavily camouflaged compact coupe model in California.
Alfred Hong tells Carscoop: “Snapped these pictures in Fullerton, California over the weekend. I believe it to be the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe! I know this car will debut at the LA Auto Show later this month, but I have yet to see some good spy shots on the web.”
Well Alfred, you’re spot on: indeed, what we see here is the much anticipated, 2012 (or 2013MY) Hyundai Elantra Coupe. However, we’re not 100 percent sure that it will make its world premiere at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.
In an earlier posting today, Autoblog’s head honcho John Neff said that the South Korean automaker would wait until next February for the Chicago Auto Show to unveil the coupe to the public.
Regardless of where the debut takes place, the new Hyundai Elantra Coupe should hit U.S. and Canadian showrooms before fall of 2012.

Hyundai Elantra Coupe confirmed to debut at 2012 Chicago Auto Show

Hyundai has confirmed that they plan on unveiling a coupe version of their latest Elantra next February at the Chicago auto show.
This news comes after Hyundai Motor America’s CEO, John Krafcik, held a small press conference in Ann Arbor, MI showing a number reporters their competitor to the proverbial Honda Civic. However, photography was not allowed.
The Elantra coupe is the next addition to the Elantra lineup, which currently consists of the usual sedan and later, a small wagon version.

“This car has been great for us,” Krafcik said. “It has really surpassed our expectations.”

Hyundai Elantra Coupe to Debut in Chicago

There has been some speculation for a while now that Hyundai is working on a coupe version of the Elantra. It was reported that the Elantra Coupe would be unveiled at the LA Auto Show next week, but now it’s been confirmed that it will debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show in February.
The Elantra Coupe will retain many of the same styling elements as the sedan, but will be a bit sportier. The coupe is also going to have a sportier driving experience thanks to different gear ratios.
Hyundai has also confirmed that the five-door Elantra, known as the i30 in Europe, will arrive in the U.S. in 2013. The new five-door Elantra will not be called the Elantra Touring, but its new name hasn’t been disclosed.
Ford Officially Confirms Transit Production in Kansas City on Heels of UAW’s Leaked “Confirmation”
October 21, 2011 at 4:42pm by Justin Berkowitz

Not content to let the UAW spoil its Transit van announcements, Ford has followed the union’s confirmation with a statement of its own. The van will be built in Ford’s Kansas City plant, which currently assembles the F-150 and Escape. Ford’s press release refers to the van as the Transit, and we expect that this will be the name used in advertising. Based on the company’s trademark filings, trim levels will likely be T-150, T-250, and so on. This would follow the example set by Ford’s E-series vans, which are badged E-150 through E-550. We expect to see the U.S.-spec Transit make its debut at next February’s Chicago auto show, as the Windy City traditionally plays host to important truck and van announcements.

Pickup sales are a popular indicator of housing-market health, but the inhabitants of the house that Walter P. Chrysler built were worrying about other measures of fiscal fitness at the time this heavy-duty Ram was introduced. Between the truck’s first public appearance at the February 2009 Chicago auto show and its launch nine months later, Chrysler filed for and emerged from bankruptcy. During that same time, new housing construction hit its low inflection point.
Fortunately, things are improving: Post-bankruptcy Chrysler is now controlled by Fiat and has rehabbed most of its ailing lineup, and truck sales are rising as the housing market slowly rebounds. Our long-term Ram was a witness to the latter in more ways than one: While the truck was under our care, eight staffers used the heavy-duty hauler to move to a new dwelling, with another handful assisting friends with relocation. We should have stocked the truck’s center console with U.S. Postal Service change-of-address packets.

Chrysler Confirms that the Fiat Doblo Will Come to the U.S., Will Launch as a Ram in 2013
September 9, 2011 at 2:48pm by Stuart Fowle

While Ford’s Transit Connect sales have been merely decent since the van’s arrival on our shores, Chrysler’s Ram brand is ready to provide competition in the compact European transplant commercial van segment. (Perhaps it hopes just as much as Ford does that Americans will soon take notice.) Today, Ram’s future model took a step toward reality as Fiat signed a letter of intent with TOFAS, the Italian company’s Turkish joint-venture partner responsible for assembly of the Fiat Doblo, for a supply of 190,000 units for export.
We started to expect that the Doblo would arrive in the States as a Ram back in March when we outlined the Chrysler Group’s options for plucking commercial vans from Fiat’s lineup. While larger options like the front-drive Fiat Ducato or the rear-drive Iveco Daily would fill the void left when Mercedes-Benz took back its Sprinter, the company picked the Doblo because of its lower cost and relatively good fuel economy; it’s also a good way to test American reception of Fiat’s commercial vehicles.
Chrysler says that exports of the Doblo will start in early 2013, and in the time in between, TOFAS will invest more than $ 160 million for the necessary changes for U.S. homologation and customer expectations. We presume that will include some work to redraw the Doblo’s bulbous nose into something more in line with Ram’s other machines, which right now includes just the Ram pickups and a cargo version of the Dodge Caravan. We don’t expect to hear much more about details like engines, variants, and price until that work is done. February’s Chicago auto show is generally regarded as the place to launch commercial products, so perhaps we’ll get a more thorough preview from McCormick Place this winter.
